State Redistricting Coming to Next General

Assembly
By Dick Myers, Editor
And Guy Leonard, Staff Writer
State Democrats have pushed through
their congressional redistricting maps
on party line votes — drawn by their
own party — in a legislative special ses-
sion which Gov. Larry Hogan quickly
vetoed, calling them an embarrassment
and a prime example of gerrymandering.
The Democrats just as quickly over-
rode Hogan’s veto, but lawmakers on the
other side of the aisle say the fight is not
over.
Del. Jerry Clark (R: 29-C, Calvert and

making a “power grab.”

Calvert Loses a Legend: Be

By Dick Myers
Editor
He was proud of being a World
War II veteran, having served in
the Navy and awarded the Asiat-
ic-Pacific, American Theatre, and
Victory medals.
He came home to Calvert Coun-
ty and became a businessman.
Soon he entered a long career as
a public servant.
His list of volunteer activities
would go on for pages.
He was a deeply religious man.
He was a family man, complete-
ly devoted to his wife of 69 years.
Bernie Fowler, a Calvert Coun-
ty legend who died Dec. 12 at the
age of 97 at his home at Asbury-
Solomons, will probably have his
lasting legacy firmly embodied in
his love of the Patuxent River.
