Daily Schedule Half-Day AM

Students enter the classroom and choose how they would


Arrival like to be greeted. Then, they put away their belongings, find
7:50–8:00
Routine their name card to sign-in, and choose an activity.

Students self-select a tub. The tubs include hands-on activities


Morning such as puzzles, play dough, Lego Duplo, Potato Heads and
8:00–8:15 more. They may work with a friend if they choose.
Tubs
Students will engage in a read-aloud, music and movement
8:15–8:25 Circle using songs, rhymes, and fingerplays, and a quick review of the
Linear Calendar and Daily Picture Schedule.
Time
Students will self-select areas in the classroom they wish to
explore. Centers include art, blocks, dramatic play, listening,
8:25–9:15 Centers literacy, math, science, sensory, storytelling, and writing.

Students will engage in a read-aloud, followed by independent


practice (small groups.) During independent practice students
9:15–9:40 Writing will choose their own topics to write about. In the beginning of
the year this may look like scribbling but will gradually progress
to pictures and eventually letter like symbols that carry meaning.

Students will self-select areas on the playground they wish to


explore. During this time students are exercising their gross
9:40–10:10 Recess motor skills by running, jumping, hopping, climbing, crawling,
sliding, balancing and more.

Students will engage in a read-aloud, followed by independent


Math practice (small groups.) During independent practice students
10:10–10:40 will use manipulatives such as cubes, counters etc. to practice
the math skill exemplified in the read aloud.

Closing Students will gather together with the teacher to discuss and
10:40–10:50 reflect on the day. Students will be invited to participate in the
Circle closing song and activity.

10:50–11:00 Dismissal
Music and movement is integrated into all subjects as appropriate and therefore is not included on
the schedule as a separate block. This schedule includes both student led and teacher directed
activities and lessons. The schedule may be adjusted at the teacher’s discretion to accommodate
student needs or special events such as fire drills, picture day etc.

crawling, sliding, balancing and more.

Students will engage in a read-aloud, followed by independent


practice (small groups.) During independent practice students will
10:10–10:50 Math use manipulatives such as cubes, counters etc. to practice the
math skill exemplified in the read aloud. The teacher may work with
