[INSTRUCTIONFOR HIGH VOLTAGE
BREAKDOWN TESTER ]
INTRODUCTION
The high voltage breakdown tester is commonly used for determining the dielectric
breakdown voltage strength in material through the thickness of a test specimen as per
relative Indian & international codes.
The dielectric strength of an electric insulating material is a property of interest for any
application where an electrical field will be present. The conditions are applied between
the insulating & conducting material. The test, which is specified here in may be used to
provide part of information needed for a given application & also for detecting changes
or deviations from normal characteristics resulting from processing variables, aging
condition or other manufacturing or environmental situation. This method is useful for
process control, acceptance or research testing.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION: -
o TRIPPING CURRENT :- SETTINGS FOR CURRENT
• 5 mA
• 10 mA
• 20 mA
o INPUT VOLTAGE :- 385 VAC
o INPUT CURRENT :- 4A (max)
o AMPERE METER :- 0-200 Ma
o VOLT METER :- 0- 3 KV
o Auxiliary power supply :- 230V AC for H.V.T Circuit Operate
SALIENT FEATURE: -
o Robust design only needs 230V power supply & +/- 10 % stabilizer control
supply.
o Settings available for tripping current.
o Manual voltage increases decreases.
o HT ‘ON’ ‘OFF’ switches available.
o Fault reset switch is available on prod.
o Fault indicator.
NOMENCLATURE: -
The minimum no. switches available on the front panel of the apparatus. The power on
switch is available on the panel & voltage adjustment knob is available to adjust the
voltage as per your requirement. The current adjustment switch available for current
adjustment. HT ‘on’ ‘off’ switches is also available on the panel. Fault indicator LED
wills glow when there is fault occurs in the apparatus, fault reset switch is also available
on the prod.
INSTALLATION: -
o The apparatus should be installed in an ambient temperature.
o The chassis of the apparatus must connect to the Earth of the supply.
o The unit should be installed at a place protected from rain & water.
o Connect the mains plug of the apparatus to 230V of AC having 50 HZ of
frequency.
o Switch ‘ON’ the power supply.
o Switch power ‘ON’.
o Adjust voltage & current as per your requirement.
o Both power supply is compulsory otherwise device not working.
OPERATION: -
o Set apparatus on a horizontal place & level it properly.
o Connect the mains plug of the apparatus to 230V & +/- 10% stabilizer control supply.
o Switch on the power supply.
o Switch power ‘ON’.
o Adjust the voltage as per your requirement.
o Adjust the current as per your requirement.
o Insert the specimen on the HT probes.
o Fault indication LED will glow when there is a fault in the specimen.
o High voltages operate with timer and without timer. Both option select the through
toggle switch.
CAUTION: -
o Handle it carefully.
o HT can be fatal.
o Being variable voltage to ‘zero’ by decreasing switch enable HT ‘ON’.
o A separate Earthling must be connected.
APPLICATION: -
To determine the dielectric breakdown voltage strength of the material.
RESULT: -
PASS: - If the HT will not trip.
FAIL: - If the HT will tripped on the adjustable time & fault indication
LED will glow.
