Earth Science Test: Plate Tectonics

This document provides a summary of Krisha Diane B. Gatoc's 4th summative test in Earth Science for the school year 2021-2022. The test covered topics relating to the layers of the Earth, plate tectonics, earthquakes, volcanoes, and sources of internal heat. Krisha scored 25/25 by correctly answering multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank questions that tested her understanding of these Earth science concepts.

EARTH SCIENCE

4 SUMMATIVE TEST
TH

S.Y 2021-2022
Krisha Diane B. Gatoc
Score: 25/25
I. Use the word bank to fill in the gaps in the passage below. Write your answers on
a space provided.

Convection
Convection current
Crust
Earth’s plates
Earthquakes
Plates
tectonics Plates
Volcanoes

The surface layer of the earth is called the 1 Crust. This layer is broken up into pieces
called 2 Earth’s plates. These 3 plates "float" on the mantle. Heat rising and falling
inside the mantle creates a current called 4 Convection current.

The 5convection current moves the 6 Plate Tectonis. This movement is known as

7 Earthquakes. The movement of the earth's plate causes earthquakes and

8 volcanoes.

II. Read each question and fill in the blanks with the correct term to complete the statement.
Write your answer on a space provided.
9.Theory that the current crust started out from intrusive igneous rocks Plutonism.
10.Stress that decrease the volume of materials. Compression
There are three processes can transfer heat: 11Conduction, 12convection, and radiation
13. Conduction governs the thermal conditions in almost entire solid portions of the Earth and plays a very important
role in the lithosphere.
14 Convection involves transfer of heat by the movement of mass, which is a more efficient means of heat transport
in the Earth compared to pure conduction.
15. Radiation is the LEAST important mode of heat transport in the Earth.
16. Theory that the current crust started out from extrusive igneous rocks Volcanism
17. The major contribution of this internal heat is the accretional energy
18.It forms from the partial melting of mantle rocks called Magma
19.The thermal energy released as a result of spontaneous nuclear disintegration is called radiogenic heat.
20.Inner core It is believed that the temperature and pressure at depth is so great that the metals are squeezed
tightly together restricting movement, so much that the particles have to vibrated in place almost like a solid structure.

III. Identify the sources of internal heat by writing RH for radiogenic heat and PH for
primordial heat.
RH 1. Presence of different isotopes of heat producing element in the mantle and crust.
PH 2. Internal heat accumulated by dissipation of planet.
PH 3. Release of accretional energy
RH 4. Processes involved in mantle convection.
RH 5. Release of thermal energy as a result of spontaneous nuclear disintegration
