NEW SERIES ESTIMATES OF STATE DOMESTIC PRODUCT,

(Base year 2011-12)

Brief Note

The Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Odisha Bhubaneswar has released the Second Revised
Estimates of Gross State Domestic Product, Net State Domestic Product and Per capita Income for the years
from 2011-12 to 2015-16, First Revised Estimates for the year 2016-17 and Advance Estimates for the year
2017-18 both at current and constant prices at new base year 2011-12.

2. The First Revised Estimate for the year 2016-17 and Second Revised Estimates for the years from 2011-12
to 2015-16 have been compiled using industry wise/ institution-wise detailed information as received from
CSO, latest data available from different stakeholder Departments, analysis of State Govt. Budget,
Autonomous Body Budget, Annual Account Reports of Public Enterprises and latest available Indices, Ratios
& Indicators from Central and State Govt. offices & web sites.

3. The Advance Estimates of State Domestic Product for the year 2017-18 has been compiled using (i)
second advance estimates of Crop production, (ii) Wholesale Price Indices (WPI) and Consumer Price Indices
(CPI) available up to November 2017 (iii) log linear / least square techniques to forecast growth (iv) Index of
Industrial Production as available (v) Implicit Price Deflator (IPD) (vi) analysis of budget estimate of State and
Central Governments. The salient features of the estimates are given below.

Gross State Domestic Product

4. Nominal GSDP or GSDP at current prices for the base year 2011-12 is estimated as Rs.230.99 thousand
crore while for the year 2012-13 is estimated as Rs. 261.70 thousand crore, for the year 2013-14 is estimated
as Rs. 296.48 thousand crore, for the year 2014-15 is estimated as Rs. 314.27 thousand crore, for the year
2015-16 is estimated as Rs.330.87 and for the year 2016-17 is estimated as Rs.377.20 thousand crore
exhibiting a growth of 13.30 percent, 13.29 percent, 6.00 percent 5.28 percent and 14.00 percent during the
years 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 respectively.

5. Real GSDP or GSDP at constant (2011-12) prices stands at Rs.243.36 thousand crore, Rs. 265.89
thousand crore, Rs.270.67 thousand crore, Rs. 292.79 thousand crore and Rs. 323.22 thousand crore
respectively for the years 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 showing growth of 5.36 percent
during 2012-13, 9.26 percent during 2013-14, 1.80 percent during 2014-15, 8.17 percent during 2015-16 and
10.39 percent during 2016-17.

6. As per advance estimates for the year 2017-18 at Constant 2011-12 prices the GSDP is likely to attain a
level of Rs. 346.29 thousand crore anticipating a rise of 7.14 per cent over the quick estimate for the year
2016-17. Advance estimate of GSDP at current prices for the year 2017-18 is likely to attain a level of Rs.
415.98 thousand crore anticipating a rise of 10.28 per cent over the quick estimate for the year 2016-17.

Net State Domestic Product

7. Nominal NSDP or NSDP at current prices for the base year 2011-12 is estimated as Rs.204.23 thousand
crore while that for the year 2012-13 is estimated as Rs. 233.31 thousand crore, for the year 2013-14 is
estimated as Rs. 260.98 thousand crore, for the year 2014-15 Rs. 274.94 thousand crore, for the year 2015-
16 is estimated as Rs. 288.62 thousand crore and for the year 2016-17 is estimated as Rs. 329.67 thousand
crore, registering a growth of 14.24 percent, 11.86 percent, 5.35 percent, 4.97 percent and 14.22 percent
during the years 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 respectively. As per advance estimates,
the NSDP at current prices is expected to reach at Rs. 363.34 thousand crore anticipating a growth rate of
10.21 percent over previous year.

8. Real NSDP or NSDP at constant (2011-12) prices stands at Rs. 216.30 thousand crore, Rs. 233.12
thousand crore Rs. 235.94 thousand crore, Rs. 255.71 thousand crore and Rs. 282.77 thousand crore
respectively for the years 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 showing growth of 5.91 percent
during 2012-13, 7.78 percent during 2013-14, 1.21 percent during 2014-15, 8.38 percent during 2015-16 and
10.58 percent during 2016-17. As per advance estimates, the NSDP at constant prices is expected to reach at
Rs. 302.91 thousand crore anticipating a growth rate of 7.12 percent over previous year.

Industry-wise Analysis

9. The Gross Value Added (GVA) at basic prices at current prices in different sectors of the economy are
presented in statement 2.1.0 and the percent share & growth over previous year are shown in the statement
2.1.1 and 2.1.2 respectively. Similarly the GVA at basic prices at Constant 2011-12 prices, the percent share
and growth over previous year are given in the statement 2.2.0, 2.2.1 and 2.2.2 respectively.

10. The Net Value Added (NVA) at basic prices at current prices in different sectors of the economy are
presented in statement 3.1.0 and the percent share & growth over previous year are shown in the statement
3.1.1 and 3.1.2 respectively. Similarly the NVA at basic prices at Constant 2011-12 prices, the percent share
and growth over previous year are given in the statement 3.2.0, 3.2.1 and 3.2.2 respectively.

11. The sluggish growth of 1.80 percent of GSDP during 2014-15 is mainly due to the negative growth of
7.94%, 9.43% and 6.89% in Mining, Manufacturing and Electricity respectively.

12. The GSDP for 2015-16 registered a growth of 8.17 percent at constant 2011-12 prices due to higher
growth in Mining (30.67%), Electricity (22.59%) and Manufacturing (15.60%).

13. The high growth of 10.39 percent during 2016-17 quick estimates of GSDP is mainly attributed to record
production of paddy in the state and higher growth in mining and services sectors.

14. In spite of negative growth (22%) in paddy production, the anticipated growth of 7.14 percent of GSDP
during 2017-18 is due to better performance of services sectors including higher budget estimate in salary
expenditure for implementation of 7th Pay Commission recommendations in the state.

Per Capita Net State Domestic Product

15. For the purpose of estimation of Per Capita Income, Population Projections compiled on the basis of
Census 2011 have been used. Per Capita Income i.e. Per Capita Net State Domestic Product at current
prices, is estimated at Rs. 48370, Rs. 54703, Rs. 60574, Rs. 63173, Rs. 65650 and Rs. 74234 for the years
2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 respectively. Correspondingly, Per Capita Net
State Domestic Product at constant 2011-12 prices, for the years from 2012-13 to 2016-17 are estimated as
Rs. 50714, Rs. 54109, Rs. 54211, Rs.58165 and Rs.63674 respectively.

16. Per capita income as per advance estimates for the year 2017-18 is anticipated to attain Rs. 80991 and
Rs. 67522 at Current price and Constant price estimate respectively.

17. The detailed estimates of Gross State Value Added, Net State Value Added by economic activities at
current and constant 2011-12 prices along with percentage share and growth over previous year are
presented in the statement 2.1.0 to 3.2.2.
