CELPIP General vs. CELPIP G Overview

Canada requires immigration applicants to prove their language ability in English or French through approved language tests in order to receive points towards permanent residence or citizenship. There are three main tests - CELPIP and IELTS for English, and TEF for French. Scores are converted to Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) levels, with higher levels earning more points. CANADA IMMIGRATION LANGUAGE LEVELS

Applicants applying for permanent residence to Canada and Canadian Citizenship,


are required to prove language skills by taking a language test approved by Canada
immigration authorities – Immigration, Refugees, Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

There are two English language tests offered by third parties that are recognized
by Canadian authorities. This includes CELPIP and IELTS.

There is one French language test offered by recognized authorities, known as


TEF.

Points are awarded for language abilities when applying for permanent residence,
under the Express Entry system or under provincial programs.

Below you will find charts which convert scores received under third party
language examinations into the corresponding language level.
