I PROJECT TITLE:
Continuing Remote Learning through Project U.S.B.S. - Uplifting Students
to Boundless Skills in Grade 7 TLE
II. RATIONALE
The outbreak of the new coronavirus infection known as COVID-19 has first occurred at Huanan
Seafood Market in Wuhan city of China in December 2019 (Wikipedia, 2020), and within a couple of
months it has turned out to be a global health emergency. It has rapidly affected thousands of
people, who are sick or being killed due to the spread of this disease. The COVID-19 pandemic also
resulted in a widespread disruption such as travel restrictions, closure of schools and global
economic recession.
Most countries around the world have temporarily closed educational institutions to contain
the spread of the virus and reduce infections (Tria, 2020). Face to face engagement of students and
teachers within the school has also been suspended. The Philippines is in the process of adapting to
the new normal form of education at present, and continuous innovations of educators and active
involvement of other stakeholders are the driving force for its success. For the continuity of
education and for every school to still attain its mission and vision which is to provide quality
education to every Filipino learner, the Department of Education implemented the Modular Distance
Learning.
Distance Learning or Remote Learning refers to a learning delivery modality, where learning
takes place between the teacher and the learners who are geographically remote from each other
during instruction. This modality has three types: Modular Distance Learning (MDL), Online Distance
Learning (ODL), and TV/Radio-Based Instruction. (Quinones, 2020)
Modular learning is the most popular type of Distance Learning. In the Philippines, this
learning modality is currently used by all public schools because according to a survey conducted by
the Department of Education (DepEd), learning through printed and digital modules emerged as the
most preferred distance learning method of parents with children who are enrolled this academic
year (Bernardo, J). This is also in consideration of the learners in rural areas where internet is not
accessible for online learning.
But there are activities and lessons that need to be performed or discussed by means of
demonstration especially in Technology and Livelihood Education. And with this the researcher plan
the project U.S.B.S.- Uplifting Students to Boundless Skills as an intervention to the limited resources
of adequate learning materials that will be used by the students in T.L.E. seven (7).
This project aims to develop critical thinking, self-reliance, independence, culture sensitivity
and entrepreneurship in the students by enhancing their skills boundlessly on the different uses of
technology and application of life skills. Students with boundless skills go beyond the information
given and think about the issues involved. They organize the information and relate it to past
experience and knowledge. Project U.S.B.S. desires to instill in the students Ignatian values that will
help them become more competitive and qualified individuals, with a sense of social awareness on
influencing the community through good leadership and service
This project aims to uplift students learning through the use of USB / Flash drive that
contains digital modules, video lessons that will help the students to learn the targeted
competencies in the learning area.
III. ACTION RESEARCH QUESTIONS
A. What is the level of academic performance in Technology and Livelihood
Education of selected grade seven (7) learners in terms of:
1. pre-test
2. post test
B. What level of influences in the academic performance in Technology and
Livelihood Education of selected grade seven (7) learners in terms of:
1. Learning Materials (Modules)
2. Gadgets or devices
3. Parents Support
C. What is the level effectiveness of using project USBS in the academic
performance in Technology and Livelihood Education of selected grade seven (7)
learners?
IV. PROPOSED INNOVATION, INTERVENTION AND STRATEGY
The use of USB/flash drive through the remote learning is very adequate in so
many ways. Students can load all of their reading materials in a USB stick and
access them conveniently. They can also use a USB for note-taking and storage of
these files.
Electronic storage devices can also benefit teachers. They can load their
students’ work, as well as their own lecture notes and presentations in a USB stick
and check them anytime and anywhere.
USB drives also make file sharing, whether peer-to-peer or from teacher to
student and vice versa, easier. Anyone can also load study materials promptly even
without an Internet connection, which can save both teachers and students a lot of
time
The researcher believes that this program is one of the possible adjustments
to address the low performance and engagement of the students in Technology and
Livelihood Education. The project USBS will utilized flash drive that contains
materials which they need to learn the required competencies in this kind of
educational scheme.
V. ACTION RESEARCH METHODS
a. Participants and/or other Sources of Data Information
The population of Grade Seven was utilized as the respondents of the
study. 30 grade seven students were the respondents of the study to
determine the level of academic performance in T.L.E. through the utilization
of USB/ flash drives. The necessary learning materials specifically the flash
drives to be utilized will be provided by the researcher. For the reason that the
researcher wants to have a continuous implementation of this project.
b. Data Gathering Methods
This study will use descriptive research design to describe and interpret the
level of academic performance in T.L.E.. Descriptive research according to
Best and Khan [Link] (2013) is concerned with condition or relationships that
exist at the time of the study and explore the causes of particular phenomena.
c. Data Analysis Plan
Document analysis will be employed in analyzing the results of the summative
test. Summative test through google forms and printed test papers are used to
collect data about people’s behavior, practices, attitudes, perceptions and the
like (Best 2013).It is concerned with result of a census study, public opinion
survey, fact finding survey, status studies and questionnaires and interview
studies among others. It involves analysis of relationships and differences
between non-experimental variables. It is concerned with beliefs, point of view
or attitudes that are held by members of the organization. It is non-
experimental because it deals with non-manipulative variables, events and
condition.

Definition of Terms
Boundless. having no limits in range or scope. If you describe something as boundless,
you mean that there seems to be no end.
Rationale. The rationale for one's research is the justification for undertaking a given
study. It states the reasons why a researcher chooses to focus on the topic in
question, including what the significance is and what gaps the research intends to fill.
In short, it is an explanation that rationalizes the need for the study.
Remote Learning. is where the student and the educator, or information source, are
not physically present in a traditional classroom environment. Information is relayed
through technology, such as discussion boards, video conferencing, and online
assessments.
Skills. are the expertise or talent needed in order to do a job or task. Job skills allow
you to do a particular job and life skills help you through everyday tasks. There are
many different types of skills that can help you succeed at all aspects of your life
whether it's school, work, or even a sport or hobby.
T.L.E. one of the learning areas of the Secondary Education Curriculum used
in Philippine secondary schools. As a subject in high school, its component areas
are: Home Economics, Agri-Fishery Arts, Industrial Arts, and Information and
Communication Technology.
Project USBS.a project that use USB/flash drives in teaching the subject area that
will enable the students to attain the target competencies.
