Carmel High School
STD: 10 ICSE Mathematics Project: 2022-2023
Instruction Approach and Format
Selection of Topic:
1. Select TWO topics from the topics given below, one each from Part A and part B.
2. The TWO topics can be compiled as one project.
3. The entire project should not exceed twenty five sheets (each topic 10-12 sheets).
4. The length of the project should be confined to the 200-page long note book.
Presentation:
1. The project is to be neatly compiled and submitted.
2. The project is to be adequately illustrated/ substantiated with charts, photographs,
diagrams, graphs, facts and figures. Do not type the project.
3. An in-depth knowledge of the project is essential to be able to make a good
presentation and convincingly answer all the requirements of the project.
4. Each project must have a separate Introduction, Conclusion, Bibliography and
Acknowledgement. Project overview- introduction-aim, methodology.
5. Choose the topic of the project carefully. Make sure that you understand what is
required. Research on the topic of interest, get relevant material from newspaper
cuttings, periodicals, etc., label them and neatly stick them only on the un-ruled
page and use the ruled page to write the information.
Cover page: Showing project title, name and class, roll no, school, year
Submission:
Final project to be submitted by ,23rd May 2022.
PART A (Choose any one)
1. Use flat cut outs( nets) to form cube, cuboid, cylinder to obtain formula for
lateral/curved surface area and total surface [Link] that areas are equal
by using the flat cut outs and formulae method.
2. Cutting a circle into equal section of a small central angle to find the area of
a circle by using the formula A=𝜋r2.
Method:
• Cut three circles out of chart paper (r = 3 or 4 cm.).
• Stick one circle on the un ruled sheet and write an introduction for the
project on the ruled sheet (Key terms – chord, sector, segment, arcs,
tangents, etc..)
• Second circle to be cut into small sectors with central angles of 45o each.
• Third circle to be cut into small sectors with central angles of 20o each.
• Arrange the cut outs to form a quadrilateral . Identify the quadrilateral
formed .Derive the formula of the area of the circle using details of the
quadrilateral. Find out the areas using both the methods.
3. Survey of various types of bank accounts (at least three banks) with the
rates of interest offered by them for different schemes (in a tabular form).
Compare the [Link] you were a financial advisor what would be your
suggestion to your clients for a better gain under the R.D scheme for a
monthly deposit of Rs.1000 for 3 years.
Part B (Choose any one)
1. Home Budget
Select any one income group (Higher income, Middle income and lower income).
• Draw a graph which shows expenditure for various items for two months.
• Compare the savings and expenditure of 2 months
• What is the average household expenditure and savings for the income
group? .
• Ask your parents how they prepare the monthly budget of your family, or
else you prepare a budget for your family. Separately mention how much
share of the budget is spent on your needs and for what purpose. Also
separately show what are your expenses which can be curtailed down so
as to reduce your share in the budget.
• Conclusion to include: • Your analysis of expenditure and savings.
• How budgeting helps.
2. Study the newspaper articles on business and keep track of the share prices
of any two companies, one from the IT sector and the other from the FMCG
(Fast Moving Consumer Goods such as coke, lux, tide, surf etc.) sector over
a period of 10 days.
Based on your requirement gather information on:
- Types of shares
- The Board of Directors.
- Price of a share
Make a comparative chart that shows the fluctuation in share prices during
the period between the two companies.
Also find the change in annual income of a person who invests same
amount of money (Rs.1lakh) in any of the two different firms.
3. Conduct a survey to study the mode of conveyance/Price of various essential
commodities/Favourite sports. Represent the data using a bar
graph/histogram and estimate the mode.
4. Comparative newspaper coverage of different items: -
Crime
Education
Sports
Social Awareness
Stock Market/Business
Celebrity
Consider at least three different newspapers
Draw the pie-charts for the data you have collected.
Compare the data using one graph
