BOTANYXXX

The document discusses succulents, pioneer species, and the differences between plant and animal cells. It states that succulents store water and are commonly found in deserts and other arid climates with low rainfall. It describes how pioneer species alter the environment through weathering rock and adding organic matter to form soil, allowing other plants to grow. Finally, it outlines the key differences between plant and animal cells, noting that plant cells have cell walls and chloroplasts while animal cells lack these structures.

1. Plants called succulents store large amounts of water in their leaves, stems,
and roots. In what environments would you expect to find succulents
growing naturally? Cite atleast 1 and explain.
 In Deserts. The majority of mature succulents prefer full to partial sun,
however new plants should be protected from direct sunlight. Succulent
hues can be enhanced by more light, but too much light might cause
fading and sunburn. Succulents, as a group of plants rather than a
specific species or variety (such as cactus), may thrive in a wide range of
climates and environments. They are generally found near deserts with
low rainfall because they have few water requirements. They can also
be found in other semi-arid regions, such as Mediterranean climates,
which receive some rain throughout the year but have periodic drought
periods. These are all ideal succulent settings where there isn't enough
precipitation or excessive aridity. A few varieties thrive on the hillsides
inland or along the beaches, where they get more rain (but not too
much). There are a lot of different factors that go into determining the
best conditions for growing succulents. Sun exposure, soil moisture
levels, and variety selection based on the grower's climate region or
purpose are examples of these.

2. How do pioneer species change environments so that other plants may

grow there?
 They alter the ecology and allow other species to colonize the area.
Bacteria and lichens that can thrive on bare rock are likely to be pioneer
species. They, together with wind and water, aid in the weathering of
rock and the formation of soil. Plants can move in once the soil has
begun to form. Initially, the plants consist of grasses and other species
that can thrive in weak, shallow soil. Organic matter is added to the soil
as plants develop and die. This improves the soil's ability to retain water.
The improved soil has allowed bushes and trees to establish themselves
in the region.

The difference between plant cell and animal cell.

 Plant cells and animal cells are two types of eukaryotic cells. Thus, both
these cell types are composed of membrane-bound organelles like nucleus,
mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum. Both cell types contain 80S
ribosomes for protein synthesis. Plant cells exhibit a fixed, rectangular
shape due to the presence of a cell wall. Their cell wall is mainly composed
of cellulose. On the contrary, animal cells have a round, irregular shape due
to the absence of a cell wall. The key difference between plant and animal
cells is that plant cells are composed of cell walls and chloroplasts whereas
animal cells lack cell walls and chloroplasts.
