COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course discusses the fundamental of management in an organization, and eventually to nation-
building. It also provides an introduction to the various business disciplines including strategic
management, planning, leading, organizing, controlling, marketing, human resource management,
and basic economics. An overview of current and future trends in management will be part of the
course. This course includes lectures, case analyses, and experiential learning.
COURSE LEARNING OUTCOME:
At the end of the course, the following are expected to be realized:
Apply theoretical management concepts in practice.
Demonstrate and describe an understanding of basic management concepts.
Understand and demonstrate the development and evolution of modern management
theories and their relevance today
Recognize and find positive solutions to various managerial problems and situations.
Demonstrate the relationship between customers, corporate management and value
creation and the role of technology in linking them.
Demonstrate their improved managerial and communication skills in presentations, "role
playing", and working with peers.
Understand the difficulties of cross-cultural communication and demonstrate their
understanding of how to communicate well across cultural boundaries.
Articulate and demonstrate an understanding of the critical importance of clear
communication for managers
Articulate and demonstrate a significant understanding of the many challenges and
opportunities that global managers face today
Comprehend the importance for managers and corporations to continually strive for
competitive advantage

COURSE POLICIES
A. You are expected to be in class because most course-related activities will be done
inside the classroom. You are only allowed 11 hours of absences inclusive of
tardiness. All absences after that shall mean excessive absences, which will merit a
grade of 0.00
B. Assignments will be due at the beginning of the class unless otherwise indicated.
Assignments and subject requirements turned in after the due date will earn a 5 %
deduction for every day late for a maximum of one week. Submissions given after
one week will no longer be accepted and no special assignments will be provided to
make up for the missed assignment.
C. There is no provision for any missed activity.
D. Students should be honest at all times. Cheating and plagiarism in any form will
merit a grade of 0.00
E. Only students with valid and excused absences (excuse letters for extra-curricular
activities, medical certificates for illness related absences, etc. will be given make up
quizzes. Special major exams are given one week after the administration of major
exam.
F. Class activities involving groups will have no more than 5 members
G. Cellular phones should always be in silent mode during class hours. The use of
electronic gadgets are generally prohibited unless otherwise relevant to class
discussion.
H. Any complaints against the teacher or against classmates should be properly
addressed to the professor for resolution. Students may seek the help of their
adviser in resolving the issue with the subject teacher.
I. All other policies shall be subject to the provisions of the latest version of the
Student Handbook.
