Chapter IV
PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA
This chapter presents the interpretation and analysis of data. This chapter presents
the results of data gathered through the research instruments provided in this study.
Table 1
Hours in a day the students spend in their online classes
14
8% %
Less than 1 hour
36% 1-2 hours
42% 3-4 hours
5-6 hours
The table above shows that only 8% of the students are spending 5 to 6 hours in
their online classes, 14% of the students are spending less than 1 hour in their online class, 36%
of the students are spending 3 to 4 hours in their online class, and lastly 42% of the students are
spending 1 to 2 hours in their online class. As the data above shows that most of the students
have only 1 to 2 hours online per day because the Mariano Marcos Memorial High School
department only assigned a 2 subjects per day to be attended in online class or also called
Synchronous class where the teacher would tackle about the lessons for only 1 hour. Spending 1
to 2 hours in staying in Online class is expected because each lesson should only be discussed in
an hour to avoid spending too much data of the students and to give each students time to their
other task, assignments and activities as the grading system in this New normal was more based
on the Practical performance and written works of a student.
Table 2
The factors that affects the Practical Performances of Grade 12 TVL students through
online learning
34% 2% Not having the right equipment
46%
or Gadget
38% Being disconnected during on-
line class
56% Nodata/ Internet connection
60% House chore
Distraction by social media/ on-
line games
Work
This graph shows the percentage the factors that can affect the Practical
Performances of Grade 12 TVL students through online learning. One of the main problems of
our country is the internet connection because now pandemic the internet connection is what
students need. The Philippines is in 86th spot in the global mobile internet speed rankings in
January 2021, according to data from an Ookla report. The students study online because face to
face is still forbidden in our country due to the spread of Covid 19. Studying online is not easy
because you will still need proper gadgets so that students can study properly. Some students
insisted on their old gadgets that were about to break so they could study. Not everyone can
afford to buy their own gadgets so the mayors gave the gadgets to the students but it is still not
enough because many students need it. The lack of gadgets, insufficient mobile data allowance
and unstable internet connection are among the primary. Students not only study they also
respond to their parents in household chores Because face to face classes are still prohibited.
Many Filipinos believe that they have adapted to the restrictions and routine of the new normal.
Today pandemic many are obsessed with online games. Many students are addicted to online
games so sometimes they neglect their studies. Some students are just looking for a living so that
they have food on a daily basis. Many people lost their jobs due to COVID 19.
Table 3
Numbers of hours the students spend in doing their Practical Performances through online
learning
12% 18%
22% Less than 1 hour
1-2 hours
48% 3-4 hours
5-6 hours
In 50 Respondents, 48% answered 1-2 hours. There is a possibility that these
students were driven away by some circumstances while only 12% of the students answered that
they spend 5-6 hours in doing their Practical Performance and there is a possibility that these are
the students that want to achieve a high grade that is why they spend more time perfecting their
Performance. During pandemic it is cleared that face to face classes was stopped until a vaccine
was made. In school, students were more productive than in online classes this was because they
could focus on class without disturbance from their environment. Now, as we face COVID19,
it’s hard to come up with this pandemic as well as in new way of learning. The 48% students
maybe, was distracted by their environment. Many students encountered a lot of these struggles
that really takes so much time in online learning. A very good example of that is the video in
Facebook where in this girl hasn't had her assignments done in here teacher asked the Girl
student and that is when the student said the reason why she wasn't be able to do those, she
answered “She is a student in school, Only in school she can be student because once she leaves
school to go home, her role change from being student to being a daughter. As a daughter, she
also has to do households chores”. So that is one of the many reasons why that 48% of the
respondents takes 1-2 hours.
Table 4
The positive and negative effects of online learning to the Practical Performances of the
students
Positive
Improve my Practical Per-
formance and Grade
1%
11% I gained more experience on
my Practical Performances
8% 30% I could participate more dur-
ing discussion
9% I could manage my time well
and chose when to do my ac-
tivities
None
As the data above shows that 30% of the students have seen improvements in
their grade and Practical performances through Online Learning while the other students also
seen improvements in gaining more experience, they could participate more during discussion,
and they could manage their time well. These data suggest that having Online Learning as an
alternative during this New Normal does not affect the students Practical performance as much
and they even seen improvements and other positive effects they experienced during Online
Learning. In addition to this there is evidence that online learning can be more effective in many
ways than a traditional online-class setting because students are can learn at their own pace, go
back and re -read, skip, or speed through concepts of their choice.
Negative
Does not improve my Practical
Performances and Grade
5% 10% I did not gained enough expe-
10% rience during my practical
performances
9% I could not participate during
29% discussion
I could not manage my time well
and pass my activities on time
None
Though the positive data of having Online class have stated that many of the
students have seen improvements in their Practical Performance and Grade, 29% of the students
still said that they did not gained enough experience in doing their Practical performances. The
other students included that they also could not manage their time well and could not participate
during discussion. This data suggest that although many students have experienced positive
effects of having online learning they are also students who did not see that and this is because
not all of the students have the same situations such as having stable internet connection, having
right equipment, and etc.
Table 5
The possible solutions/alternatives that can be made to improve the Practical Performances
of the Grade 12 TVL students
2% Ask your subject teacher
25%
30% when you don’t understand
the lesson
Search Online
24% Watch on Youtube
20%
Review the lessons/ watch
the recording of lesson
None
The table above shows that 30% out of the 50 respondents states that reviewing
the lessons or watching the recording of lesson would be the best alternative or solution in
improving the student’s practical performances, while the other believed asking your teacher
about the lesson, watching in Youtube and searching online could also help a student improve
their Practical Performances. Reviewing the lessons would help the students improve their
Practical performance in a way that it can enhance their understanding about the lesson or on
how to do the activity properly and this also is helpful and effective in other subjects because this
lessons is uploaded in the Google classroom which can easily be accessed by the students and
teachers whenever they need. The three other choices was close in percentage and also can
benefits the students in many ways such as watching Youtube can help you watch and see how to
properly execute the performance and Youtube have so much to offer when it comes to tutorials
on doing things. Searching online would also help the students because our search engines can
show you many websites and links that you can browse to find your desired content and answer.
Lastly asking your teacher about the lesson is also can be the best way because doing this would
acquire you the right information and just what you need.
