Unit of Competency: Maintain and Se
Title: Install Computer Hardware: Power Supply
Performance Objective:
Given the necessary materials and equipment, the trainee will be
able to check the system unit and the power supply for thirty (30) minutes
only to perform the task.
Supplies/Materials: Examination Test Paper and Screw drivers
Equipment: System Unit/Computer Case and Power Supply Unit
Step/Procedure:
Safety Precaution Reminders:
● Wear your proper PPE
● Remove your jewelries and secure loose clothing
● Locate where the fire extinguisher and how to use it
● Avoid foods and drinks out of the workplace.
1. Find a power supply for the system unit.
1.1 Check if the screw slots of the power supply unit are compatible
to the slots of the computer case.
2. Assemble your tools (screw drivers)
3. Ground yourself
3.1 Check if you are wearing rubber sole shoes
3.2 Wear Anti-Static wrist strap
4. Open the computer case.
5. Lay the case on its side, with exposed Hi side facing up.
6. Set the power supply’s voltage switch. (if the power supply have any)
7. Find the power supply’s intended location.
7.1 Insert the Power Supply Unit to the Computer Case.
7.2 Check the screw locations if parallel to both units
7.3 Screw the power supply into place.
8. Attach the power supply to the motherboard and other components.
(Hard Disk Drive, Floppy Disk Drive, CD drive and Graphics card)
8.1 Slowly push both end of the ATX-2 Molex Power Connector to
the ATX Power Port following the port guide
8.2 Plug the ATX 4 Pin Molex 12V P4 Connector to the ATX 12V
port following the guide of the port

8.3 Plug SATA Power cable following the guide of the port
8.4 Plug 4 Pin Molex Peripheral connector to the external fan.
9. Close and plug back into the PC.
11.1 Place the cover back on the PC
11.2 Stand the computer case up
11.3 Plug the power cord and other back panel peripherals
12. Turn on the computer.
