INTRODUCTION

Biodegradable Tableware is an alternative to tableware products derived from plastic. These

products are fully compostable and biodegradable products that can be made several types
of natural materials such as sugarcane bagasse(the dry pulpy residue left after the
extraction of juice from sugar cane), palm leaves, agricultural residues and other disposable
material. Sugarcane is a very fast renewable resource for which no trees have to be cut
down. As a by-product of the sugar production, bagasse does not require additional
cultivation areas and has no impact on the area of forests. It is actually a sustainable and
eco-friendly alternative to conventional paper production.

Bagasse product are trendy and admired as a green alternative to plastic tableware which is
eco-friendly substitute to polystyrene and Styrofoam tableware products. Bagasse is a
stylish and elegant eco-friendly packaging solution made from reclaimed sugarcane fibre,
suitable for cold and hot food serving and packaging

Biodegradable tableware is becoming a growing trend and is being used globally in order to
reduce plastic waste as well as greenhouse emissions. Biodegradable tableware includes
food containers and tableware such as bowls, plates, cups and meal trays that can be
decomposed within 2 months of being discarded. Packaging waste has been observed to be
a significant part of municipal solid waste and has caused increasing environmental concern.
Current packaging solutions such as oil based polymers are virtually non-biodegradable.
Some packaging solutions are difficult to recycle or even reuse.

In addition to that these tableware products are suitable for the handling of both hot and
cold beverages and comprises of high strength and rigidity.

The uses of biodegradable bagasse products are

 Easy to use
 Easy to dispose
 Hygienic

The global biodegradable tableware market is highly fragmented with the presence of large
number of manufacturers globally. Some of the major players include Lollicup USA, AL
Bayade, HUHTAMAKI Group. Eco product, Biotrem, Natural tableware, Eco ware, and
Pappco Green ware.

Product
Eco friendly food plate adopts advanced production technology and mould design. It
presents a portable disposal environmental friendly sugarcane pulp plate. These disposable
plates and cutlery uses natural plant fibers as raw materials, sugarcane and other natural
degradable and renewable fiber materials. The materials used are harmless to the human
body, non-toxic, tasteless, and easily degradable. There is no pollution during the
manufacturing, using and destructing process. These natural disposable plates also have the
characteristics of easy recycling and disposal after being used.

Sugarcane is a very fast renewable resource for which no trees have to be cut down. As a
by-product of the sugar production, bagasse does not require additional cultivation areas
and has no impact on the area of forest.

The plates and bowls are 100% biodegradable and can completely breakdown in 30-60 days
without interrupting the eco balance.

Place and Price

Bagasse is a stylish and elegant eco-friendly packing in solution made from reclaimed
sugarcane fibre, suitable for cold and hot food serving and packaging. Food catering, dine-
ins, food to go packaging are exhibiting remarkable rise in the use of bagasse tableware
products due to their sturdiness and excellent thermal resistant features.

The bagasse tableware product market is fuelled by the expansion of quick service
restaurants and catering services due to the fast paced lifestyles and rising standard of
living.

However the restaurants, cafes food packing industries are increased the use of bagasse
tableware. Because these products are easy to carry, durable and available in different sizes
and shapes to serve meals. The combination of sturdiness and lightweight makes it an ideal
packaging during food packaging and delivery.

The cost of products varies based on size. While cups are 90 paisa and above, plates range
from Rs.2 -7 .meal boxes costs about Rs.10 and above and the containers vary from Rs.6 to
Rs.15.

Production plan

For the manufacture of biodegradable cups and plates the first step is to soak the sugarcane
bagasse or other pulp in water and mix them until the right consistency of pulp is achieved.
No wastage of water is generated in the manufacturing process all excess water either
evaporates during manufacturing or is returned in the system.

The pulp part is formed to shop by custom designed tools. The tools are powered into pulp
mixture and the water is pulled through the mesh with a vacuum. The upper tools press into
the lower tools to help shape the piece suction from the vacuum helps bind the fibers. After
forming, the parts are wet and need to be dried.

PROCESS OF MOULDED PULP

To create moulded pulp you must begin with a fibre. The fibre used will be based on the end
product desired. For example, when creating a stabilizer or cushion you can use recycled
corrugated and Kraft materials. This will result in a thick, dark-colored pulp. You would most
likely use the Thick-Walled manufacturing process with this kind of pulp. Virgin material
rather than recycled material has been proven to be stronger as well. With moulded pulp,
the shape and size of the moulded piece will play a large part in how strong the piece will
be.

In manufacturing, fibre is mixed with water in a giant blender. As it mixes, a slurry is formed.
The slurry has the same consistency and thickness of pancake batter and is also quite heavy.
If additives are to be used, they would be mixed into the slurry. An additive could be used to
make the product stronger, printable, smoother, or to add colour or bleach the slurry.
BAGASSE PULP PLATE MAKING MACHINE

Bagasse is the newly developed material for the production of tableware. Compared with
other raw material, bagasse tableware has better appearance and longer life span,
compared with polyester, bagasse is more environmental friendly, which can be recycled or
assorted easily. The production of bagasse tableware is similar with egg tray production.
Bagasse pulp, which can be obtained from sugarcane bagasse, is used as raw material, after
pulping, moulding & drying section, the tableware will go through sterilization and edge
trimming section before packaging

1. Pulping:
Soaping the pulp paper board and put into hydraulic pulper. After pulping, pulp will
go into mixture tank and add water oil additive, then goes to pulp supply tub for
forming machine, vacuum dewatering and forming.

2. Forming :
Forming is the key process in production line. The process is quantitive pulp supply,
back flushing power supply, vacuum dewatering and forming .with advance
technology to eliminate holes, uneven thickness during production, so as to reduce
defective goods. The semi-finished product will be moved into drying mould for
solidity.

3. Shaping and drying: at this stage, steam is used for heat drying. Using high
temperature to final shape the products.

4. Edge cutting and sterilization:

The product taken out from the shaper will be moved into edge cutting machine,
where the extra shaper will be trimmed. UV sterilization is applied to make sure
production meeting with hygiene requirement.

5. Packaging:
Final product is packed and stored.
