INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE OF WASHINGTON CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATION (CS-51)

CATHODIC PROTECTION

1. Applicability

Construction Specification CS-51 is applicable to the construction and/or installation of cathodic


protection systems needed for corrosion protection of metal objects. It is applicable for
installations of metal used for structures, pipelines and storage tanks.

2. Material Specifications

There are no material specifications complementary to Construction Specification CS-51.


Requirements for all materials shall be specified on the drawings.

3. Special Items to be Included on the Drawings:

a. Plan view showing location of anode beds and test station.

b. Number of anodes required including size and composition.

c. Details for wiring and connections

d. Anode bed development for moisture requirements and anode replacement.

e. Special provisions for anode placement and backfill requirements, if applicable.

f. Exterior coatings of metal structure above ground.

g. Specify method of measurement and payment, if applicable.
