1. Southwest Airlines is one of the most important airlines of USA.

Efficiency means a
progress that uses the lowest amount of inputs to create the greatest amount of outputs.
Southwest is also doing many things efficiently. Such as:
 Point to point scheduled.
 Use less expensive airports in many major markets
 Southwest preferring a short-haul.
Effectiveness refers how something is about getting the maximum result of something
with less amount of effort. It means performing managerial activities effectively.
 Southwest flies only one type of jet and it adopt successfully and
maintenance a better way.
 Southwest took right decision when they use long Island’s Islip.
 Southwest use human resources effectively: It has no labor
union, they are unionized, and it has never experienced a labor
strike.
In this airline the top level managers – CEO, COO Etc. use resources very effective way.
Southwest use the low cost air carrier and successfully implementing them. Also they use their
resources efficiently. It has a proper management division and maintains all human resources.
They say this management does not listen to employees. Southwest cannot use
resources in a cost effectively and efficiently. It may has better human resources but it cannot
use properly or it exist labor strike.

2. CEO has overall responsibility for creating, planning, implementing and


integrating the strategic direction of an organization. COO is the member of executive
management that responsible for maintaining and driving operations results within a
company.
There are many managerial skills. Such as Technical, Interpersonal,
Communication, Time management, Diagnostic and etc. Colleen Barrett and Jim Parker
were very exemplary managers.
 Southwest Airlines has no labor union. They are unionized. It has never
experienced a labor strike. That is because the top level managers have
communication and interpersonal skill with labors and their problems.
 At a time when other airlines are reducing wages, Southwest is giving pay
hikes.
 Southwest Airlines use point to point scheduled. It uses less expensive
airports in many major markets. It performing a short-haul. Then we can say
it has conceptual skills too.

3. Effectiveness refers how something is about getting the maximum result of


something with less amount of effort. It means performing managerial activities
effectively. We can give examples for their effectiveness:
 Southwest flies only one type of jet and it adopt successfully and
maintenance a better way.
 Southwest took right decision when they use long Island’s Islip.
 Southwest use human resources effectively.
Barrett and Parker were humble and more open soliciting ideas from all types of people
regardless of status or rank. They had many life experiences.

The world is changing very fast with new technologies resulting in the replacement of
traditional work methods by new types of job and few forms of working which require different
combination skills. Educational based business knowledge because of the growth in managers’
responsibilities. Continuous formal education and development are important so that an
individual has knowledge and skills required to meet changing business needs.
