Make use of the five senses to appeal to the reader:

- Sound
- Scent
- Sight
- Taste
- Touch

Pencil:

- The pencil fell to the floor with a soft thud.


- A soft thud echoed through the tall, quiet hallway as the wooden pencil violently fell to the
clean floor.

- The scent of lead filled the hallway


- The scent of lead escaped the closely packed fibers of the new and freshly sharpened pencil,
giving a musky and woodsy aroma to the tall hallway.

- The vibrant, yellow pencil was on the checkered-lined notebook on top of the dark, wooden
desk.
- The vibrant, yellow pencil rested comfortably on the checkered-lined notebook hidden from
view on the dark, wooden desk.

- A bitter taste filled the toddler’s mouth as he bit into the old, worn-out pencil.
- A bitter taste quickly filled the mischievous toddler’s tiny mouth as he forcefully bit into the
old, worn-out pencil.

- The splinters on the course pencil bruised my fingers as I quickly wrote the essay.
- The sharp splinters on the course pencil suddenly bruised my gentle fingers as I quickly
wrote the challenging essay.
