Rizal's Life and Work in London

Rizal lived in London from May 1888 to March 1889. He stayed at the home of Dr. Antonio Ma. Regidor and later at the boarding house of the Beckett family. Rizal studied English and annotated Morga's book "Historical Events of the Philippine Islands" for 10 months. He visited Paris in September 1888 and Madrid/Barcelona in December 1888, where he met Del Pilar and Ponce. Rizal gave gifts to friends for Christmas and helped establish the patriotic society La Solidaridad in December 1888, becoming its honorary president. He wrote his first article for their newspaper in March 1889 and continued writing in defense of the Philippines.
