What are vertebrates animals
A vertebrate is an animal with a backbone. Fishes, amphibians,
reptiles, birds, and mammals, including humans, are all vertebrates.

Vertebrates share some basic characteristics. A hollow backbone and

the cranium, or skull, protect the spinal cord and brain of most
vertebrates. All vertebrates reproduce by mating between males and
females.

Fish are the oldest known vertebrates. Most fish have a bony
skeleton. However, sharks and rays have a skeleton made of cartilage, a
strong and flexible tissue. Fish gradually evolved, or changed, into land
animals.

Mammals are the most complex kind of vertebrate. They feed their
babies with milk from the mother, they develop inside their mother’s
body, and they have hair. Their highly developed brains make them
more intelligent than other groups of animals.
What are invertebrates animals
Invertebrates are characterized by their lack of vertebrae, i.e. they
don't have a backbone. Invertebrates are often seen as being not a
sophisticated as vertebrate animals.

They simply exist in a different way and are adapted to their

environment differently. Invertebrate animals aren't able to colonize
territories or adapt to different environments, unlike vertebrate animals.

Examples of invertebrates and their habitat include jellyfish which live

in the sea, bees which fly in the air and earthworms which live
underground.
Difference and Comparison of Invertebrate and
Vertebrate Animals

Invertebrates have no backbone, while vertebrates have a well-

developed internal skeleton of cartilage and bone and a highly
developed brain that is enclosed by a skull. A nerve cord is enclosed by
vertebrae — individual bones that make up a vertebrate's spine.
Vertebrates have well-developed sensory organs, a respiratory system
with either gills or lungs, and a bilateral symmetry with an advanced
nervous system that further distinguishes them from invertebrates.

Differences in Habitat
Both types of animals live in a variety of habitats, but vertebrates can
essentially suit themselves in all habitats easily. The highly developed
nervous system and internal skeletons of vertebrates allow them to
adapt to land, sea, and [Link], invertebrates are also found in
a vast range of habitats, from forests and deserts, to caves and seabed
mud.

Differences in Size

One of the noticeable differences between vertebrates and

invertebrates is their size. Invertebrates, such as worms, shellfish, and
insects, are small and slow-moving because they lack effective ways to
support a large body and the muscles needed to power it. But there are
a few exceptions, like the squid, which may be close to 15 meters (50
feet) in size. Vertebrates have a versatile support system. As a result,
vertebrates have the capability to develop faster and bigger bodies than

Importance of invertebrates and vertebrates
Invertebrates serve as food for humans; are key elements in food
chains that support birds, fish, and many other vertebrate species; and
play important roles in plant pollination.
Like vertebrates, invertebrates play important roles in our ecosystem,
though invertebrates are often overlooked. Pollinators such as bees,
butterflies and beetles aid in the reproduction of 80% of the world's
flowers and without them our food system would collapse.
