Episode 6: Episode 6: Home – School Link

Home-school partnerships involve collaborative working relationships between families

and schools. They can support students in more productive and consistent work and behavior,
which in turn can improve students’ interest, motivation, and engagement in learning both at
home and at school. In effective partnerships, families and schools recognize their shared interest
in and responsibility for children and collaborate to create shared goals, share information, and
enhance opportunities for children’s learning. They create constructive connections between
home and school settings that promote positive educational and social outcomes (Hargraves,
n.d.).
Home-school partnerships involve:
 teachers finding opportunities for students and/or families to share knowledge and
skills gained through home and family experiences
 teachers using students’ home experiences to devise meaningful and relevant
learning activities
 schools providing resources such as books that are identified as important by
particular groups of families
 schools supporting parents to engage with their children’s learning

Learning Outcomes:

1. Identify and describe factors influencing home-school environment.

2. Reflect on the impact of home – school link to learning.

My Analysis and Reflection

Write your analysis and reflection by answering the following questions as your guide.

Analysis:

1. Based on your interview, what are the factors influencing home-school environment?
Enumerate and explain.
At home, a rule must be followed, and the student found that this was the most effective way
to act as a parent. They always succeed in reminding the child that he must finish all of his
assignments and other activities before he is allowed to spend time outside or on his phone.
In addition, the guardian assists their child with the module if they can, primarily in the case
that the module is too tricky for the learners to finish. The parent took the time to explain
everything to the child in great detail, which assisted the child in better understanding his
obligations. As a parent, they also impact their child's fundamental beliefs, such as their
child's religious beliefs, as well as issues related to their child's future, such as the
educational decisions they make.

Furthermore, the stronger their relationship with their child, the more influence they will
have because their child will be more likely to seek guidance and value their opinion and
support. Additionally, their child will be more likely to seek support and value their opinion
when making important decisions. Suppose a parent maintains a healthy relationship with
their child even after becoming an adult. That child will likely develop values, beliefs, and
behaviors compared to the parents

2. Look back on your experiences when you were on that age, share your experiences on
Home – school link. Is it effective or not?

2. Reflect on this quote by Mahatma Gandhi “There is no school equal to a decent home and
no teacher equal to a virtuous parent.”

There has never been a more accurate assertion. After all, children tend to acquire the
most knowledge when they are at ease in their own homes, in the company of their doting
parents and attentive teachers or babysitters. At home, kids get a head start on life by
learning good manners, how to take care of themselves, and how to communicate. In the
familiar surroundings of their own homes, they have their first encounters with concepts
such as family, love, and safety.

Parents who firmly believe there is no place like home must arm themselves with the
tools, especially when educating their kids. They must tackle the challenging but
incredibly rewarding task of educating their kids academically and in other areas.
Educating the kids academically, in essential life skills, and other areas will help them
become well-rounded individuals. The quality of the relationship with one's parents is
essential in determining overall well-being. The health and happiness of children and the
degree to which they are satisfied with their lives are significantly improved when the
level of harmony in their families is high and when their parents are willing to give them
more freedom. Character. Virtues. Lessons in life: Things that are not typically taught to
them from textbooks or while seated in a classroom.

3. Recall a time when you were in elementary or high school, what type of parenting di you
experience? How did affect you right now?
