CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
Squelch Controt
The squelch circuit consists of ncise amplifier
Q1007 (23627123A) and a highpass filter and
squelch trigger within Q1008 on the Main Unil, anc
contol cireuitry within microprocessor Q?001
(HD40$7 19-A11H) on the Control Unit
‘When ne carrier is received, noise at the output
oof the detector stage In Q1008 is amplified by
Q1007 and nignpass filtered by the noise amp sec-
tion of Q1008, and chen rectited by DIUI2 to pro-
vide a DCeontrol voltage for ihe squelchswitching
section within Q10W8. With no cerricr, pin 14 of
QlUUS is high. This signal is inverted by Q1Od6
(itH15) and delivered t0 BUSY pin 16 of main mi-
croprocessor Q2001 on theCcntro! Linit as theScan
Scop signal, which couses the BUSY indication on
the display when the squelch is opea. This signal
250 causes the microprocessor to cut receiver
audio in two places on the Interface Unit men-
tioned already: opening audio mute gate Q3005
(via switch Q300L, DTCT14EK), and pulling the
audio line to ground just before the audio amplifier
at QG0L2, thus silencing the receiver while no sig-
nals being received, ard during transmission.
When a cartier appears at the discriminator,
noise isremoved frurn the output, causing pin 140
Q1008 ie go low, This signals the microprocessor to
activate the BUSY indicator through LCD driver
2002 (L€7582). The mic-oprocessor then checks
tor CTCSS tone detection from the FIST/A Tone
Squeich Unit (f installed, enc tor Ligital Code

stalled). (fnot trarsmutting and tone squelch is not
activated, or it the received tone matches that
grammed, the microprocessor switches Q30M4/-
Q3003 and Q3012 to allow audio tw pas to the
amplifier and loudspeaker.
Center-Stop Scanning

QL008 is also delivered to comparator circuit
3008 (LAE324M.24 & 34) on the Inteface Unt,
which compares the discrininator auyput to a pre-
set DC level, The output of the comparator con-
necis to the Scan [Link] line, preventing the received

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
Transmit Signal Path
Speech input from the micrephone is delivered
vvia the Mic Jack) Unit and the Control Unit to the
Interface Urit, where it passed through Mic Mute
analog switch Q3309 (IC4SB6F) for amplification
and pre-emphasis by Q3007 (LAG324M-%4). To pre-
ent over-deviation, the audio is p-ovessed by IDC
(instantanecus deviation control) stage Q3007-74,
and then lowpass fi fored by Q3M8 (l ABIZAMA4
& -14) before delivery te the modulator on the VCO
Unit. Q3007-% provides a low impedance refer
ence for the Towpass filler input end some of the
‘ther aparsps.
Ia CICSS tone is erabled for transmission, the
subaudible tone ftom microprocessor ONUU1 on fae
Cortrol Unit is lewpass filtered by 93007-% and
nixed with she IDC-processed speech andio. Also,
DTMF tones generated by the FRC-6 option (con-
nected to the PRG Unit jack), or clrectly ftom the
microprocessor, ae applied to the transm.t audio
dhain at the mputof the IDC stage. The microproc-
‘ssor also disables micropzone at Mic Mute switch
9309 via QBO10 (DTC114EK) when necessary.
The smoculating audio is delivered to diode
1D3G5 (HVUZO2) on the VCO Unit, frequency mod-
ulating the PEL camer up to #5 kil from the
ununodulated carries atthe transmcthng frequency.
‘Themodulatec signal from transmatier VOU Q303
(MMBR9S1L) 1s bufiored by Q205 (2502/29) and
delivered to the Main Unit for amplification by
QIC12 (2802789), Q1011 (MMIERSS IL) and Q1010
(2802538). The low level transm't signal is then
finally ampl fied by PA module Q1008S-AV24) up
to 50 wails. Hantivnic spurious radiation m the
final output is suppressed by a -pule lowpass l=
fer on the Main Uni, aad the transmit signal chen
asses through Yiwave anterna switch D1016 be-
foredelivery ty the antenna.
Automatic Transmit Power Contre!
RF power outpat rom the final empliffer is sam-
pled by C1C64 and rectified by D1017 (188108).
“Therresulting DC is passed by high/medium/low
power contoller 0-017 (FST) and transmit i
hibit gate QIG18 (MXt) tc A:stomatic Power Con-
froller QIO1? (2SBS88S) wich regulates supply
voltage to ransmitter RF amplifers QiCLD and
QIOLI, so as to maintain stable high, mecium or
low output power under varyig antenna loading
conditions.
Spurious Suppression
Generation of spurious products by the tars-
aiier is wilnlulaed by the fundamental carer
Frequency being equal to the final ransmaitsng fe-
quency, niodulated directly ‘mn the transmit VCO.
Additional harmicnic suppression :s provided by &
Spele lowpas: filler consisting uf L1002, L1013,
LiGL4 and C1902, C1062, Cide3, C1063-C10€7,
C4152 and C1153, resulting in more than 6) dB
harmonic suppression (for transmiling feyuet
cios in the amateur band) prior to delivery to the
antenna.
PLL Frequency Synthesizer
PLL circuitry on the Mein Uirit consists of swale
low counter Q1M25 (MC12022SLAD) and PLL sub-
system IC O1024 (MC125 1582), which somtaine 4
refererce oscillatcr /divider, serial-towparallel data
latch, programmable divider and a phase com
parator, Stability is abtaineé by a regulated 5.\V
supply vie QIOL4 (28627 12GR) to Q1024 and tom.
perature compensating capacitors associated with
12.8-MHz freqcency reference crystal X10N2,
Receiver VOO Q301 (MMBR351L) on the VOU
Unit oscillates between 118.6 and 152.6 according
lo the prograinned receiving frequency. The VCO
outputis buttered by Q305 (28C2758) on the VEU
Unit, and then returned tw the Main Unit where a
sample of the output is buffered by Q1028 (250-
2714) for application io prescaler/swallow
counse: Q1025, Theve the VCO signalis divided by
64.0r 63, according toa vontiul signal irom he data
latch section of Q:024, before bey spplied to the
programmable divider sectioa af the *LL exip.
‘The data latch section of Q1024 also receives
serial dividing data from microprocessor Q2001 on
the Control Unit, which causes the predivided
VCO sigral to be further divided by 23,729 —
30,520 in the programmazle divider section, di
pending upcn the desired receive frequency, so a8
te proctce a SKliz or §.25-KFIz derivative o: the
current VCO frequency, Meanwhile, the reference
divider sect:on oF QiC24 divides the 12.8-MEz
aayslal relzrence by 2560 (or 2048) to produce the
5-KHz or 6.25-kHz) loop reference (respectively).
The S-kHz (or 625-kH7) signal from the pro-
grammable divider (derived ftom the YCO) and
that derived from the crystal are applied te the
Phase detector section af Q1024, wich producesa
dual 5-V pulsed output with pulse duration d>-
pending on the phase difference between the inpmtSignals, This pulse train is coaverted to DC by
charge pump Q1026/Q1027 (MX3/IMZ2), low-
ass filtered and then fec back to varactore D301
and 10302 (117353 x 2) on the VCO Unit.
‘Changes in the level of the DC voltage applied
to D301/D802 affect the reactance in the tank cir-
quit of VCO Q3i1, changing che oscillating fre-
‘quency according to the pliase diflerence between
the signals derived from the VCO and the crystal
refererice oscillator. The VCO is thvas phase-locked
wp Me crystal reference oscillator,
The output of receiver VCO Q201, alter buffer
ing by Q805, is delivered to che Main Unit for
amplification by Q1005 before application to Exe
‘st mixer, as described previously.
‘Transmitier VCO Q303 (MMBF95tL) oscillates
ketween 140 and 174 MHz according to the pro-
grammed transmit frequency. The remainder of the
PLL cicuitry is shared with the receiver. However,
the dividing data from the microprocessor is such
that the VCD frequency ‘s at the actual transmit
frequency (ther than of'set for Is, a3 ir the Te-
ceiving case). Also, the transmitte: VCO is modu-
lated by the filtered speech audio applied to
modulating varactor 13305, as cescribed previous-
ly. If the FRC-6 Digital Coded Squelch option is
installed, DUS modalation is applied both to the
‘¥COand tothe FLL requency reierence, via varac~
tor Dauzi (HVUZO2).
Transmit Intibit
When the transmit FLL is unlocked pin 7 of PLL
chip Q1024 goes to a logic low, turning on QH020
(OTAL43EK) and turning off half of Q1018. This
unlock signal produces a low impedance at the
base 0'the other haliof QU018, which then turns off
Automatic Power Cantro!ler Q1019 0 disable the
supply voltage to transmitter RF amplifiers QUOIO
and QUI, disabling the transmitter.

o7ex00329ce3‘The FT-2400H has been carefully aligned at the
factory for the specified performance across the
amateur band. Realignment should therefore not
be necessary except in the event of a component
failure. Al! component replacement and service
should be performed only by an authorized Yaesu
representative, or the warranty policy may be
voided.
The following procedures cover the sometimes
critical and tedious adjustments that are not nor-
mally required once the transceiver has left the
factory. However, if damage occurs and some par's
subsequently be replaced, realignment may be re-
quired. Ifa sudden problem occurs during normal
operation, it is likely due to component failure;
realignment should not be done until after the
faulty component has been replaced.
We recommend that servicing be performed
only by authorized Yaesu service technicians who
are experienced with the circuitry and fully
equipped for repair and alignment. Therefore, if a
fault is suspected, contact the dealer from whom
the transceiver was purchased for instructions re-
garding repair. Authorized Yaesu service techni-
cians realign all circuits and make complete
performance checks to ensure compliance with f
tory specifications after replacing any faulty com-
ponents,
‘Those who do undertake any of the following
alignments are cautioned :0 proceed at their own
risk. Problems caused by unauthorized attempts at
realignment are no: covered by the warranty pol-
icy. Also, Yaesu must reserve the right to change
circuits end alignment procedures in the interest of
improved performance, without notifying owners.
Under no circumstances should any alignment
be attempted unless the normal function and op-
eration of the transceiver are clearly understood,
the cause of the malfunction has been clearly pin-
pointed and any faulty components replaced, and

the need for realignment determined to be abso-
lutely necessary.
The following test equipment (and thorough
familiarity with its correct use) is necessary for
complete realignment. Correction of problems
caused by misalignment resulting from tise of im
proper test equipment is not covered under the
warranty policy. While most steps do not require
all of the equipmentlisted, the interactions of some
adjustments may require that more complex ad-
justments be performed afterwards. Do not at-
tempt to perform only a single step unless it is
clearly isolated electrically from all other steps.
Rather, have all test equipment ready before begin-
ning, and follow all of the steps in a section in the
‘order presented.

Alignment Preparation & Precautions
‘50-0 dummy load and inline wattmeter must
bbe connected to the main antenna jack in all proce-
dures that call for transmission, except where
specified otherwise. Correctalignmentis not possi-
ble with an antenna,
After completing one step, read the following
step lo determine whether the same test equipment
will be requited. Ifnot, remove the test equipment
(except dummy load and waltmeter, if connected)
before proceeding,
Correct alignment requires that the ambient
temperature be the same as that of the transceiver
and test equipment, and that this temperature be
held constant between 20 and 30 °C (68~ 86 °B.
‘When the trartsceiveris brought into the shop from,
hot of cold air it should be allowed some time for
thermal equalization with the environment before
alignment.
Alignments must orly be made with oscillator
shields and cizcuit boards firmly affixed in place.
Also, the test equipment must be thoroughly

& Alignment
The FRC-6 provides DIMF paging/selcall fea-
tures using 3-digit DIMF station ID codes. Seven
code memories store your ID code plus those of six
frequently-called stations or groups. Control is
provided through the front panel of the transcei-
ver. See the FI-2400H Operating Manual for opera~
tional details.
G1 Disconnect the DC power cable, and referring to
Figure 1,remove the four screws affixing the top
cover (two on either side), and loosen the one on
top from the back by several turns. Lift the rear
edge of the cover slightly, then remove it.
