Target population
According to the principles of research methodology, any items, people, objects, etc. that are
identified for study are the target population (Kothari, 2004). Furthermore, Kumar (2011) stated
that the classes from which the researcher selects his or her sample are called the target
population or study population. Therefore, defining the target population is one of the core steps
in designing the research process.
The organizational structure of the national bank of Ethiopia includes a board of directors, a
governor, a monetary stability cluster, a financial institution supervision cluster, and a corporate
service cluster. The organization has several mandates, one of which is to determine the interest
rate. Among the departments of the National Bank of Ethiopia, the research and planning
department is a department that is responsible for the determination of interest rates. The
department has 23 members, and as a result, the members of the research department will be
interviewed. The total target population is 23.
Sample size
Determining an appropriate sample size is a very important issue in such research because
samples that are too large waste resources, while too small samples may lead to inaccurate
conclusions. There are several approaches to determining the required sample size for the study
population.
For this study, the sample will come from the research and planning department. Since the
number of members in the research and planning department is 23 and it is less than 100, we will
use the total targeted population as our sample.
Sampling and sampling techniques
To meet the objective of the study, a non-probabilistic sampling method is used. To determine
the sample, the convenience sampling method from non-sampling is going to be used.
Convenience sampling is a non-probability sampling method where units are selected for
inclusion in the sample because they are the easiest for the researcher to access.
This can be due to geographical proximity, availability at a given time, or willingness to
participate in the research. Sometimes called accidental sampling, convenience sampling is a
type of non-random sampling. In this case, because of the population's proximity, given time,
and population characteristics, the convenience sampling method will be used for the research.
