STAGES OF THE LESSON
ACTIVITY 1

WARMER - Toilet paper
AIM: ☺to warm students up
☺ to introduce students in the atmosphere of the
English class.
☺ to make S's feel comfortable in the class.
☺ to verify students' previous knowledge on Present Simple
TIMING: ☺ 8 minutes
INTERACTION: ☺T-S, S-S
PROCEDURE:
☺ T passes around a roll of toilet paper and tells S's they can get
as much as they want (it needs to be the one with the dotted
lines). After all of them have taken some, they will have to give
as many pieces of information about themselves as the
number of “squares” they took from the paper, mentioning
that they need to use Present Simple Tense as much as
possible.
e.g. T takes 4 squares and says:
My name is Teacher;
I read before I go to sleep;
I go to the cinema with my family at the
week-end;
I ride my bike during the summer holiday.

ACTIVITY 2
It's movie time!
AIM: ☺to listen and understand information about London
☺to understand and acknowledge the cultural patrimony and
traditions of British culture

TIMING: ☺12 minutes
INTERACTION: ☺T-S, S-S
PROCEDURE:
☺ T. shows a map of London and asks S's if they recognize
the city, asks questions about the city and if somebody visited the
city.
☺T. engages S's to watch a short movie (2:53 min.) . ☺T.
plays the movie.
☺When the movie is over T. offers extra information
about London asking more questions if necessary.
☺ T. divides the class into groups of four by giving them cards
with the name of some famous buildings from London, and
each student will have to go to the group with the name of
the building. When the groups are ready, they will receive
some large pieces of paper.
☺T. explains the stages of the activity. Students shall write a
list of activities that they/ tourists may usually do in London.
☺When the activity is ready students will have to choose a
speaker and present their choices.
☺ T. praises children for their work and announces the next
activity.
ACTIVITY 3
JIGSAW READING
AIM:
☺ to check students comprehension upon the text
☺ to select information from a text
☺ to develop the reading habit widely and often

TIMING: ☺ 10 minutes
INTERACTION:
☺ T-S, S-S
PROCEDURE:
☺ In advance, T. copies/ prepares the text from the student book,
p. 92, on large sheets of paper.
☺ S's are put into groups of 6. Each S shall pick a colour stick and
they will go to the group of their colour.
☺ T. explains the stages of the activity.
☺ S. will have to read the text and decide which is the best title
for each paragraph ( Day1, Day 2, Day 3) and stick it above
the right information.
☺ T. together with Ss verify if all answers are right!
☺ T. asks some questions about the text to check S's
comprehension:
1. When can you see interesting old buildings? Day 1.
2. Where can you have lunch? When? Regent's Park.Day1
3. When can you paint a picture? Day 1.
4. When can you listen to music? Day 3.
5. Which day can you travel on the river? Day 1.
6. When can you learn about street art? Where? Day 2.
ACTIVITY 4
HOLIDAY MIME
AIM: ☺ to guess hobbies and free time activities from mimes
☺to provide students with further practice on this vocabulary
item through different activities.
☺to focus on specific grammar structure meaning Present
Simple.

TIMING: ☺8 minutes
INTERACTION: ☺T-S, S-S, G-W
PROCEDURE:
☺ T. divides the class into groups of four. T. uses again the
grouping activities of places in London.
☺ T. gives each group a set of cards.
☺T. asks S's to shuffle the cards and place them face down in
a pile on the desk.
☺S's take turns to pick up a card, mime the free time/ holiday
activity from the card for the other S's to guess.
☺The first S's to correctly guess the activity wins and keeps the
card.
☺ The play continues until all cards have been used.
☺The S's with the most cards at the end of the game is the
winner.
ACTIVITY 5
LISTEN AND DISCUSS
AIM: ☺ to listen and understand information told by somebody who
talks about the activities they do during their free time.
☺ to provide students with further practice on this vocabulary
item through different activities
☺ to understand a listening activity and complete the given
tasks.

PROCEDURE:
☺ T. asks Ss to open their Student books on page 92, explains the
stages of the activity and gives examples if necessary.
☺ T plays the listening activity ( ex., page 92, Student's book) and
students shall write the corresponding letter next to the
activities the characters do ( Grace (G), Daniel(D), Jess (J).
☺ T. together with the Ss verify if they understood the activity and
wrote the right answers.
☺ T. puts the Ss in pairs and demands them to ask and answer
questions about the activities in ex. 3, they do in the summer.
They shall explanation how often they do them, why or why
they don't do them at all.
