Ericsson Evo Controller - RNC-BSC

EvoC is Ericsson's evolved core network controller that provides a smaller footprint than previous solutions. It offers a future-proof investment through flexible capacity scaling and support for both 2G and 3G networks on a single platform. The EvoC uses Evolved Processor Boards and a standardized cabinet and sub-rack configuration to provide routing and control functions for Radio Network Controllers and Base Station Controllers. It can support thousands of cells and hundreds of megabits per second in throughput, offering cost-effective expansion of network capabilities.

EvoC vs RNC 3820 (General)

› SW compatibility:
– RAN W11B (same RNC 3820 feature)
› Platform requirement for Evo is CPP9, for 3820 is CPP8, due to Middleware SW layer
changes for Evo
› Dynamic Iu/Iur Signaling – This is a new feature required for EVO Controller
– OSS-RC O11.3
› 8100/BSC  A combined controller will not impact the OSS deployment. The topology
in each OSS will indicate that the cabinet is shared.
› 8200/BSC/RNC The new magazine, switch boards and processor boards will
introduce new counters and alarm parameters.
– SGSN-MME 2010B:
› RBS Support
– RBS 6000
– RBS 3000
› Interface Support
– EvoET supports legacy ATM and TDM
– ATM interface support from W12B release (in December 2012)
– TDM interface support from G13B release (in June 2013)

› Licenses & HWAC

– Hardware Activation Codes are implemented for HW licensing . Hardware Activation
Codes are related to hardware capabilities.
