CHAPTER 1
I. Background of the Study
Pollution is the introduction of harmful materials into the environment.
These harmful materials are called pollutants. Pollutants can be natural, such
as volcanic ash. They can also be created by human activity, such as trash
or runoff produced by factories. The researchers have found that the oft-
maligned banana peel can grab heavy metals like copper and lead out of polluted
water.
Nowadays, many people eats banana but the main problem is that banana
peel can be found anywhere. Banana peel can cause pollution, flood, and etc. As
of now, our country is facing a great crisis in economy. The researcher found out
that in school, they required using of floor wax to maintain the floor shiny. Even in
the houses, floor wax is being use. So, the researcher decided to make a floor
wax which is very affordable and can give an equal quality as the commercial
can.
Floor waxing is essential to maintain the shiny gloss of wooden floors.
However, if you find the buying ready-made floor wax prohibitively, it’s possible to
mix raw way crystals and kerosene with banana peels to create a substance
suitable for use polishing your wooden floors.
Banana peeling floor wax is made of mostly recycled materials that can
help the users and consumers to save money, and it is less harmful to the
environment compared to the commercial floor wax that has many chemicals that
is harmful to the environment and also to the ones who is using it. This study will
find out of how can banana peeling floor wax for the environment and it’s users,
and how efficient is banana peeling floor wax than common synthetic floor wax.
Banana is the common name for a fruit and also the herbaceous plants of
the genus Musa which produce the commonly eaten fruit. They also native to the
tropical region of Southeast Asia and Australia. Today, they are cultivated
throughout the tropics.
Banana peels can be an alternative source of making floor wax and also
to create a floor wax that has odor compared to the other floor wax that the
researchers had. To inform are target that they can create floor wax by using
banana peels. The purpose of this research is to innovate the reusable banana
peels to lessen environmental waste.
The researchers tend to educate families that they can make a home-
made floor wax by themselves. In this case, they can save mother earth. The
researchers also want to extend the knowledge to those in the public schools
who mostly used floor wax to make their classroom floor shiny. This will educate
them that they can make an alternative floor wax instead of buying commercial
floor wax. This study can give benefits to the people especially to the poor ones
to save money for their other needs. Especially in schools, it will give a benefit to
the students as well as their parents to save money.
Not only on that, this study will help people who really used floor wax in
school or even in their house that their health are not affected because we did
this wax to lessen the odor of original floor wax. This study is only limited for the
investigation of banana used of alternative source for floor wax making. The
researchers chose this study for further investigation if the banana can be an
effective source for floor wax and how we can help our mother earth though the
researchers are only a student.
II. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This investigatory study aims to answer the following questions:
1. Can banana peel be an alternative source in making floor wax?
2. Is it much more effective than other floor wax?
3. In what way can this banana floor wax help other people? Or what is
the good affect in the environment? Would it be good or not?
III. HYPOTHESIS
This study based on the following hypothesis:
Alternative Hypothesis
There is a significant difference between the banana peel floor wax and
commercial floor wax in terms of shine capacity, odor, and color.
Null Hypothesis
There is no significant difference between the banana peel floor wax and
commercial floor wax in terms of shine capacity, odor, and color.
IV. SCOPE OF DELIMATION
The study is focused only on making an alternative floor wax out of
banana peel (Musa paradisiaca) and determining the effectiveness of it
through convenience sampling (grade 11 students). We chose this study for
further investigation if the banana can be an effective source for floor wax and
how we can help our mother earth though we are only a student.
V. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
This study can give benefits to the people especially to the poor ones to
save money for their other needs. Especially in schools, it will give a benefit to
the students as well as their parents to save money. Not only on that, this study
help people who really used a floor wax in school or even on their house that
their health are not affected because we did this wax to lessen the odor of
original floor wax.
