Djarnaa Al Djwi'r also known as the Great Mosque of
Algiers is the most famous mosque in Algeria which is located
in Al Mohammadia, Algiers. It is the third-largest mosque in
the world after the Great Mosque of Mecca and AI-
Masjid an- Nabawi of Medina in Saudi Arabia.
The construction of the Elosque began in August}Al? *
after the Algerian govenrment's contract, for lbillion Euros,. It
was designed by the Gennan architects KSP Juergen Engel
Architekten and Krebs und Kiefer International and it uras .'. §'1,
completed by April 2ü19. Around 2,300 workers
from China, Algeria and other African countrieq were deployed to work
on the project. It is equipped with a prayer hall with an area of 20,000m.
The prayer hall has a capacity of 37,000 worshipperq while the ,,r.
structure including the compound can carry out to 120,000 worshippers

and has parking space for 6,000 cars. The complexalso contains a Quan
school, a park, a library, staff housing area, a fire statioq a museum
of Islamic art, and a research center on the history of Algeria.

The mosque atrso has a265 m (869 ft) talt minaret, which makes *ffi
it the tallest building in Africa. It also contains an observation deck atop
the minaret, which has 37 {Ioors. The mosque is designed to withstand
