Fill the Mitten
Nicki's mitten holds many winter animals!
Laminate the mittens, then cut out the
mitten outlines, hole punch the marked
spots, and practice sewing or lacing
yarn/ribbon through the holes. Leave the
opening of the mitten unlaced.

Next, cut out the animals. As you follow

along with the story, place the animals
into the mitten...and of course, hope
nobody sneezes!

*You can also use these animal cut-outs for winter scene play and
story recreation (scenes at the end of this packet.)

Burrow Sequencing
The animals in this story found a cozy place to use as a
burrow. As you listen to the story, write the order of animals
that burrow into the mitten!

Mitten Mix-Up
Baba made special mittens to help
Nicki learn the meaning of nouns,
pronouns, verbs, and adjectives. Uh-
oh! The winter wind blew through the
house and scattered the words.

Cut out the following words and

mittens, then place the words on the
correct mitten to identify if the word
is a noun, pronoun, verb, or an
adjective. The words can be found in
the story for context, as needed.

Mitten Cocoa
Poetry Time
Make a warm cup of Mitten Cocoa and
use the following poetry templates to have
a Cocoa and Poetry time!

As you make your cocoa, pretend the mug

is a mitten and as you add mini
marshmallows, pretend each is one of the
animals that entered the mitten.

Add a final dash of cinnamon to represent

the sneeze as the animals get "blown out"
of the mitten (or melt away in your mug)!

Read your poetry and enjoy!

Mitten Cocoa

3/4 cup sugar

1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup half-and-half cream
Small pinch of salt
8 mini marshmallows per serving
1/3 cup boiling water
Sprinkle of cinnamon per serving
3.5 cups milk

*Makes approximately 4 mittens (mugs) of cocoa.

Add sugar, cocoa powder, and salt to a pot.

Add boiling water to the dry mixture in pot and whisk together. Bring to a
simmer, while stirring continuously.

After simmering for 1-2minutes, stir in milk and heat until hot, but not boiling.

Remove from heat and add vanilla if this is your preference.

Pour into your mittens (mugs) and add half and half to bring to a comfortable
drinking temperature.

Add your winter animals (mini marshmallows) and then sprinkle your sneeze
(cinnamon).

Read your poetry and enjoy!

Double-Sided Mitten Memory Cards
The following page is for you to print as the back of
your memory game. This step is not necessary and you
can just print the card pages if you would like.

To Print double-sided memory cards -

Step 1 - Print the memory cards on cardstock or regular
printing paper. If you print on regular printing paper we
recommend laminating once you have printed on both
sides for added durability.

Step 2 - Wait a few minutes for the ink to dry and then
place your memory card pages back in the printer with
the graphics facing backward so you cannot see them
and you just see the back of the page.

Step 3 - Open up your printer printing options on your

computer and choose to print 3 copies of the following
page.
Your cards will now print with the following page as the
back.

Step 4 - Cut out your cards and enjoy your game.
