BACKGROUND AND PROBLEMS ANALYSIS
The drought in Somalia in the last decade brought untold suffering
to the people and the in the North the people are still suffering under
the bad issue who will soon give up their animals and farming.
On the 20th of December 2016 certain Association were badly
vandalized. After this date, bad drought occupies all the areas. Their
stories were not good to hear. Among that issue it committed were
houses, school, and other privates properties, the scared believes of
the old people died hunger while young children became
malnutrition the human right of the people completely disregarded.
The Malin Association Project Fund Charity (MAPFC) which is an
umbrella organization of four men and Five Women Association in
the Mogadishu recognized its role, and aware of the plight of its
people consulted with a local NGO operating in Somalia specially
Mogadishu on how to assist the people from the rural area who
affected by the bad drought.
Based on the advice of local society, meetings and assessments were
done to ascertain the level of commitment and the capacity of the
Malin project executive and participants as well as the needs of the
participants from the above certain findings, suggestions and
agreement were reached.
- The executive agreed that Malin Association Project Fund
Charity would work in collaboration and the implementation
of the project.
- Livestock (small ruminants), which were owned by
participants, have been completely died during the drought.
- There is no enough livestock available within the
communities.
- Access to livestock is limited because of lack of funds.
It is in the view of this background that the Malin Association
Project Fund Charity in collaboration with local NGOS would
intervene to alleviate the communities’ dire needs.
The project package also serves as a means of replacement of lost
livestock. Since the farm families lack funds and alternative
resources to purchase them, this will give back livestock to the
participants who have lost everything in life.
PROJECT GOAL
The goal of the project is to improve the livestock level of 585 farm
families in five (5) communities in the BORAMA,
BURCO,AWDAL SOOL, SANAG DISTRICT.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
To help provide 585 farm families, 3000 for family foods and 600 of
agronomists with livestock (cows, goats, sheep and Camel) to restart
and ensure diversified production by august 2016
To reduce malnutrition and increase livestock cows, goats, sheep
and Camel available for 3000 food families.
PRESENT NEEDS
In order to support our on-going activities, the association organized
a general meeting and listed the following:
1. To purchase 15 male cows and 60 female cows for the project.
2. To purchase 20 boars and 40 soars, for the establishment of a
piggery at the project operational areas.
3. to purchase 20 male goats and 40 female goats for the project.
4. To purchase 20 male sheep and 40 female sheep at the project
operational area.
5. To produce animal fed, water well and drugs for verterinary
services.
6. To achieve the above immediate objectives the organization
needs inputs of initial capital to purchase them in order to start
these activities.
IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY
The under-mentioned strategies will be carried out to achieve the set
objectives.
- Community mobilization and sensitization for further
understanding of the project.
- Purchase and distribution of livestock (cows, goat, sheep and
Camels) the local government and the executive of Malin
Association Project Fund Charity will ensure that certified
food approval by the board are bought.
- Provision of food for work to assist the farm families in the
hunger period and protect the livestock (caw, goats, and sheep)
from being local government has memorandum of
understanding with Malin Association Project Fund Charity
(MAPFC) to supply food to every certified farm families who
is involved in livestock farming.
- Supervision, monitoring, reporting and Evaluation of project
activities.

MONITORING AND EVALUATION
The project will be monitored by Malin Association Project Fund
Charity trained executives and animators jointly with the
beneficiaries under the regular supervision of National Association
Farmers of Somalia (NAFS) every activity carried out will be
monitored to ascertain whether it is done correctly, at the given time
frame and whether the desired effect(s) is achieved. A monitoring
questionnaire will be prepared with the help of NAFS and used
daily by the monitors.
Evaluation would be done from to time at the middle period of
implementation and end of each activity.
INSTITUTIONAL CAPACITY
Malin Association Project Fund Charity has carried out similar
project in the past in the operational communities. There was a
livestock bank project, which involved over 35 cows, 45 Camels, 42
goats and 24 sheep but was destroyed by the drought.
The use of NAFS as supervising agency and the training of the
executive and animators of MAPFC will ensure an effective and
efficient delivery system. The capacity of the institution will
develop to a high level to be able to handle management of the
people.
PROJECT FEASIBILITY AND SUSTAINABILITY
The people in the operational communities are peasent farmers who
have been involved in all their lives in livestock (cows, goats, sheep
and Camels).
The people are familiar with the raising of cows, goats, sheep and
Camels that would be selected and bought are suited to the areas.
Also cows, goats, sheep and Camel are easy to raise involving little
or no cost and use of locally available materials for food and
housing which ensures continuity needs external support.
