Life-Altering Events and Personal Growth

Certain life events can profoundly change one's perspective and impression of life. These include significant physical injuries, the loss of a loved one, or sudden financial instability. The author discusses three such life-changing events they experienced: 1) the death of their mother during their teenage years, which caused deep grief and depression but also made them appreciate relationships more, 2) moving abroad for education, which was difficult due to separation from family but necessary for a better future, and 3) viewing Niagara Falls, which reminded them of the power of nature and importance of living simply. These events made the author stronger yet more aware of life's fragility and importance of family and happiness.

CERTAIN EVENTS CHANGE OUR IMPRESSION OF LIFE

Certain events change our impression of life. Some events make us stronger, some teach us new
hobbies and some show us it’s okay to let loose. The progression of human life is directly impacted by
certain events that can change one’s perspective on life. Events such as a significant physical injury,
a familial tragedy, or a sudden change in financial status can drastically alter one’s perceptions of life.
A significant physical injury can alter a person’s mental perceptions of danger and physical activity for
the rest of their lives. Perhaps a physical trauma would force one to acknowledge their everyday
interactions. Furthermore, it would cause caution in any future activities. As a results their mental and
physical state may be damaged. While both physical injuries and mental tragedies have an impact on
one’s emotional state, the loss of life of a close one would change one’s perception of life to a much
greater extent. A tragedy in one’s close social web can provoke a change in perception regarding their
viewpoints of life. After the loss of a loved one, one may feel come to terms with the fragility and gift
that is mother nature. Society only learns how to cope with the grief by grieving themselves. Moreover,
One does not know what he has till they have lost it. But, the loss of financial stability could be one of
the greatest direct impact to one state livelihood particularly in modern times, a sudden change in one’s
financial status can spell out disaster depending on that change. The loss in financial security may force
the reevaluation of their spending habits and lifestyle. Everything may seem to be “more expensive” for
someone who has recently acquired an unstable or insecure income, and an effort of frugality may
persist. Impression of life can be easily altered by certain events, such as a serious ailment, a sudden
death in one’s immediate family, or the introduction of instability in one’s financial position. Generally,
these events are a drastic shift from a relatively stable and predictable status. As well, changing
someone’s physical, emotional, or financial status will nearly always elicit an immediate reactions that
tend to attempt it’s revival to previous standards. Certain events, whether physical, emotional, or
financial, can change one’s impression on life such a way that those impressions are now aimed toward
recovering the previous existing conditions in life.

The first event that had a remarkable impact on my life was the loss of my mother. This event not
only changed my world but also made me a better person. It taught me how to appreciate family, friend
and relationships. I can still remember the day when my mother passed away. My mother passed away
at a critical point in my life when I was fifteen years old from a short-term illness. She was sick for a
week and I remember thinking this could be serious, however my mother refused to go to hospital. She
recovered after a week but after a few days she got sick again. July 5, 2021, 4AM, She was rushed into
the hospital because her condition is critical. I lost appetite, could not sleep, and spent several hours
crying and wishing that she would be fine. One afternoon, just after lunch, we received a news that she
had passed away. At that moment, I was shocked and couldn’t believe what I heard. I just started to cry,
I did not sleep nor eat and did not shade single tears after the initial outburst. Every morning I still wake
up thinking that she is there drinking coffee outside the house, watching tv, and exercising. Then
suddenly the truth comes rushing up to me and I realize that it is just a dream hanging around me still,
and a cold despair fall upon me. I feel empty inside. My mother’s death was a really sobering experience
I’ve passed through. It was the most devastating loss in my life. The memory of my mother will follow
me wherever I go, and far living my dreams with a gentle scent of her perfume and shimmering of her
laugh. She was there to show me how much she cared and she was there when I made my first steps.
She taught me to smile and laugh. She is always there for me, always support me and I can run to
whenever I have a problem. I missed school for many days, thus affecting my academics. Even though
my family was affected too, the effect was greater on me. I became more depressed, I started to avoid
social gatherings and experience difficulty sleeping.
My family were not angry at me for missing school. When my dear mother died, I started to understand
all those people who lost someone they loved. There are perhaps no proper words to describe this pain.
This intolerable pain which tears you apart, which is like a stone on your heart, and which make tears
run down your face with each moment spend with the dear person who passed away. Time is unlikely to
pass so fast this hurt, no matter what others claim. It’s been almost two years since she died, but the
paint I feel is still fresh. When my mother died, I lost my appetite for everything, I lost my appetite for
life, But I had to become strong, proactive and it spurred me to choose a new career path. My family
and friends comfort me, they assured me that it was normal to experience fear and anxiety. They helped
me to overcome the fear and anxiety of embracing responsibilities. That incident changed my life,
attitudes, and perspectives regarding life. My family and friends has always supported me during tough
times. That incident improved my relationship with my family and introduced me to adulthood.
Whenever I face a challenge, I discuss it openly with my friends and family because of the awareness
that they are always ready and willing to listen and offer assistance. The second event that happened in
my life that change my impression on life was I need to go abroad to study and to have a better life. I
know it will be hard but I have to do it. Being apart from family is difficult. In order to achieve what we
really want in life, we have to make sacrifice, because without sacrifice one can never achieve good
things in life. I will continue what I started, because I know it will be worth it in the end. The third event,
I feel extremely small standing besides one of the most famous tourist attraction named Niagara falls.
How pure and fresh it is. Every time the scene reminds me of the fact that we ignore the strong power
of nature. I should learn to be simple, to be pure again in this complicated world, even though it is hard
thing. Embrace the nature, and you will find you are less burdened, temporarily forget your problem,
seatbacks or obstacles in your daily life. I mean not to escape but just have a good mood is essential.
Sometimes life is short, so we should seek happiness not complaining or drawn ourselves in sadness.

In life, we all go through certain events. We experience challenges and it’s either we face them or
walk away from it. Growing up, people will always have different ways of handling things that happens
in their life. We can’t know what could happen and how we handle it because life is unexpected. As I see
it is that if you tend to keep making the same mistakes, you’ll never get passed your past and if you
learn from all mistakes, you can move forward with your life. Everyone has faced their challenges in
their own way not everything in life will be easy because no one’s life is perfect. The challenges I have
gone through has made me the person I am today and has made me stronger person mentally and
physically. I’m more of an independent type of person because I’m not one to express my feelings to
people I do not trust or do not know. Everyone has had to deal with obstacles or challenges at some
point. Some people can overcome hurdles with confidence and bravery, while many others have
difficulty trying to face them. However, the challenge we have faced are a central part of who we are
today. Overcoming challenges can make you a better person. The lessons you learn from them are
essential for future success, and as with all other experiences, these challenges help form you into the
person you are today. They can also be exciting to some, as they test your skills and capabilities. In order
to overcome our challenges we must have faith and confidence in our own self. We must consider all
possibilities of solving the problem and use maximum of our efforts. People in this world face more
terrible situations then you do and they overcome their challenges. Most of the time challenges are
presented to be difficult and can be solved with just firm determination and positive attitude. We must
tell ourselves that we can. We should use the challenges to bring out the best in you. It is time to
analyze the problem clearly and then look out for a solution. Be determined that no matter what
happens you are not going to fail. With this mindset we can easily win over any situation. Accept what
has happened and continue on. Do not lost hope and stand up again. Life is like a roller coaster it has it’s
ups and downs but it’s your choice to scream or enjoy the ride.
