Demolition to Begin at Military Circle Mall Site

NORFOLK, VA – The City of Norfolk’s Department of Economic Development announced today that preparation
for Phase 1 demolition of the Military Circle Mall site will begin at the end of this week and continue through the
week of April 24th.

Phase 1 demolition will start with outparcels - China Garden, Martin’s Café, and The Shoppes, with additional
outparcel demolition to follow. Phase 1 outparcel demolition is expected to continue through late June. Phase 2
demolition on the main mall is anticipated to begin late summer 2023. Hurricane Fence will begin installation of
construction fencing on the interior of the ring road while outparcel demolition is in progress.

The mall permanently closed on Jan. 31, 2023. Since then, the Department of Economic Development
administered an invitation to bid process to secure a qualified contractor for the out parcel portion of demolition
work. Divaris Property Management also hired an outside agency to auction leftover mall goods or fixtures that
could potentially be recycled for future use, while the Norfolk Police Department’s Special Operations Team held
recurring trainings within the empty mall spaces.

Entrances to the interior parking area will be closed on the south and east sides of the parking lot. These closures
will not impact access to Optima or Ross. All construction vehicles will use Poplar Hall Drive for ingress and egress.
