ERHARD AIR-BEG®

air valve set

ERHARD AIR-BEG air valve set
2

PN 16 and PN 25 Air valve set for the auto-

matic air release and air
admission of underground

T
lines

Air release and air admission valves are used to prevent disruptive collections
of air in water pipes, and to ensure that pipelines are completely filled and
emptied. They also limit underpressure and remove collected gases and air
from the system.

Function
When the pipeline is not pressurised, the valve nozzle is open.

Filling process
When the pipeline is gradually filled with water, the water column displaces
the air, which can then escape through the open valve. When the water column
reaches the float, it is lifted and closes the valve opening. In this process, the
small air release borehole in the nozzle is also closed.

Air release at operational pressure

If the water level is lowered, due to air collecting in the pipeline at operating
pressure, the float drops as soon as the water level reaches the float point. The
small air release cross section in the orifice is opened. Due to the pressure in
the valve, the nozzle itself remains pressed against the ring of the large cross
section.

Emptying process
If the pressure in the pipeline drops to atmospheric pressure or lower, the float
drops and opens the large cross section. Depending on the pressure in the
pipeline system, ambient air can now enter the pipeline system through the
valve.

Street cap
For subsurface installaion, the ERHARD AIR-BEG set can be installed
under a specially designed street cap which does not obstruct air flow
(see accessories).

Maintenance
To service the valve set, it can be easily pulled out of its seat by means of the
attached removing device (bracket or spindle). The unit can then be dismantled
and the valve can be removed from the jacket. For rinsing purposes, or to extract
air or water from the pipeline, the unit can be equipped with a rinsing kit (see
accessories) attached to the above device.

Recommended limit values:

filling the pipeline
The maximum permitted pressure surge when closing the ERHARD
AIR-BEG air valve set should be limited to P = 3 bar for safety reasons. This
value results from a filling rate of 0.25 m/s in the pipeline.

Recommended limit values:

bleeding the pipeline
The recommended maximum bleeding rate is Vmax = 80 m/s (relative to the free
aeration cross section). This corresponds to an air admission rate of 345 m3/h.
