About this list:

My preferences tend towards visual novels that feature strong stories and memorable characters. I have a strong
aversion to incest content and my tastes are fairly vanilla. I don’t enjoy fuck-fest games; so if that’s what you
want, you may want to look elsewhere.

There are many, many other games that I've tried, but these are the games I generally consider worth
recommending.

I have come up with some broad tiers and the games are presented in alphabetical order within each grouping.

There are some well-regarded games that are listed in the final section which I have not played due to my
personal preferences with regards to the kinks in those games. But they are mentioned as a service to players
who might enjoy them.

Synopsis: The story centers around you, a middle-aged man with a background in cryptocurrency trading,
telling the story of how you met a girl named Megan during a life changing day. Megan is a young aspiring
actress down on her luck and in desperate need for help. Will, you be there for her when she needs it the
most and help her turn the tide? Will you be able to win her heart?
My take: A highly controversial ending that players will either be enraged or amazed by. This was my favorite
AVN for a long time.

Synopsis: June 2020, the month after your father died. He had been the only motivation for you to stay in
town. You didn't know where else to go or what else to do. Due to his bad heart, you had decided to take
care of him full time, causing you to drop out of high-school to focus on the farm. Now there's absolutely
nothing else left for you here... then you found a letter from the A.O.A academy, claiming that you have been
accepted. This surprised you, since you've never attempted to enroll in any academy. Not only that, the
letter also contained the number of your old friend, Ashley. Determined to face your new future, you headed
to the A.O.A. Academy.
My take: Another take on the college setting vn, but with a whole lot more going on than that. Some early
render issues are distant memories now and TLG is doing some great work.

Synopsis: You were on your way to living the lush life as a gifted software engineer, working for the most

world in pursuit of a functional life. Your newfound resilience is put to the test as you are hit with several
unfortunate events. But not all is unfortunate as you rekindle an old friendship who has a proposition that
leaves you hesitant.
My take: Even though there’s only been 2 updates, each update is a lot of content. And bloody fantastic
content at that. Some genuine laugh-out-loud moments.

Season 3 Interlude
Synopsis: A young man from a low-income family moves away from his widowed father and his summer
love to attend college at Burgmeister & Royce. As he is cast into freshman life and persuaded to join the
up-and-coming fraternity Delta Iota Kappa, he'll be exposed to a new world filled with conflicts, alcohol,
drugs and sex.
My take: Another great game from DPC with lots of college drama and some hot women. Has a lot of
mini games that players might either enjoy, or be irritated by. Though there is an option to disable them.

My take: Philly’s second game COBD features some of the most incredible visuals in the genre. Story is fairly
dark and quite bleak (so far). But what an amazing spectacle.

Synopsis: Chasing Sunsets follows the story of step-siblings reconnecting and dealing with the fallout of their
parents' unexpected deaths. As the story progresses, they will cooperate (or compete) with each other to
discover the secrets of their parents' success in business and in love. The player's choices will determine both
how the game ends, and whom he finishes it with. Explore majestic Tonalu Island and the motivations of the
tempting ladies encountered along the way...But don't lose sight of what you're there for!
My take: Chasing sunsets is a narratively rich story with really compelling renders. Not all girls are up for grabs,
but the ones that are, are fantastic. The developers have implemented a system where order of conversation
choices matter, which rewards emotional intelligence. A really neat innovation.

Synopsis: You are a private eye in Free City. Your latest client has found himself dead. As for how? Many
suspect suicide, though you’re smarter than that. But poking around may get you in some hot water. But then
again why would you be a private eye if you weren't looking to face the heat.

My take: Philly’s first game, DA is a great detective/noir game with flawed and interesting characters.

Synopsis: You’re moving with your best friend to the city of Kredon, home to some of the best schools and universities in
the country, to continue your studies. However, in Kredon, there’s only one thing everyone talks about: ETERNUM—the
virtual, hyper-reality MMORPG game released a few years ago that revolutionized the world of technology. With a neural
implant that recreates the five senses, it becomes impossible to distinguish between the game and the real world.

Thousands of servers form the network of Eternum: from colorful, magic-filled fantasy worlds to foggy sci-fi cities, no
world is beyond reach. Nevertheless, looking beyond the surface, there's a darker side to this pretty facade: black
markets, torture, rape, illegal content trafficking, unlawful assemblies, data theft… Eternum follows the rules of no man.

And you? What’s your role in this story? Well... That’s up to you now.

My take: Futuristic world with cyberspace settings. Seriously impressive follow-up game from Caribdis. And
despite the Honey Select 2 rendering the visuals look pretty great. Good humor and lots of imagination on
display.
Hillside

Synopsis: The exclusive district of Hillside is home to the country's film industry and to those lucky enough to
be able to afford to live there. Among them is veteran supermodel Charlotte Lloyd and her youngest daughter,
Emma. You play an experienced bodyguard hired to protect the 18-year-old Emma from a stalker who has
recently begun sending disturbing letters to the shy teen. But protecting her might be the easiest part of the
job as you move into Charlotte's house and live with one of the world's most beautiful models. Will you be able
to control your sexual desire and preserve your hard-earned professional reputation?
My take: Really good bodyguard game with 4 available romance arcs available. Expect a very slow burn and to
have to confront some really shitty individuals. Charlotte is the Queen. Long live the Queen!

Synopsis: You awake one day, realizing there's much more to life than it currently offers you. Having spent two
years sulking over lost love, you finally move forward to pursue a different life. Which, through choices and
opportunities, will lead you down a path you never thought possible.
My take: All the feels. My favorite AVN. And when I say all the feels, I mean it. Fucking onion-cutting-ninjas got
me. This game had the greatest soundtrack of any AVN (IMO). Unfortunately, the music licenses Drifty had
purchased changed their TOS to exclude adult content. Consequently, he has temporarily removed all msic
from the game. It’s a terrible shame and an indictment against the copyright system that licenses purchased in
good faith can be revoked after the fact. Hopefully he will be able to create a new soundtrack to rival the old
one. Disclaimer: I have made some 3d-assets for this game, and I consider Drifty to be a friend: so take my
recommendation with that in mind.

My take: Open world elements; card-poker combat system; story is great. LOM has bounced between the
highly recommended and recommended tiers of my list over the past couple years. Some changes in Book 2
have made the necessity of playing the card combat less burdensome, so I feel it deserves to be promoted
once more. But one thing has not changed: the story is epic.

Melody (Completed)

life and a fresh start in another town. You have also decided to take a break from the job you know so well, to
focus on a brand-new career. You’re just not sure what that will be yet. In order to keep the money coming in,
you decide to take up a job offer, tutoring Melody, the niece of a woman you meet by chance via an online
marketplace. Melody is currently studying music in college, so having an experienced tutor is pretty important
for her chosen career path.
My take: Played this one early on and still recall it fondly.

Synopsis: After a traumatic experience, a young spirit tries to find its way back into life. College is about to
start and mysteries are about to unfold.

My take: This game took me a few attempts to get into. At the beginning, especially, the mc is extremely hard
to like. But he makes an effort to improve and it’s that journey that is most compelling. Add to that Ocean’s
stunning renders, and some incredible and flawed girls, and it’s a powerful experience. Disclaimer: Ocean
contracted me to make a custom asset for this game, so take my recommendation with that in mind.

SWE1: The Warrior's Heart (Completed)

Synopsis: A fan-fiction visual novel that is set in the Star Wars setting. In this episode you'll follow a young man
(Kaylan is the default name) who will embark in a great adventure full of action, drama and, of course, sex.
I tried to keep true with the original SW feeling, theme and tone.
My take: Really nice SF game set in the star wars universe. My only complaint is that the audio design is really
inconsistent.
The Deluca Family

Synopsis: Our protagonist is a guy like any other normal guy. Lives a peaceful and uncomplicated life. That
uncomplicated life turns into a rather complicated one when he receives a letter from a mafioso, who tells our
unfortunate protagonist that due to his parents past, he is now under a mafia contract. He is to serve for a
mafia family, but not just any mafia family, the DeLuca family. One of the most dangerous and infamous
criminal organizations in the country.
My take: This game is a really neat take on a mafia theme. And it contains some really amazingly emotional
moments. No other game has made me feel as genuinely enraged as this one. It contains some slightly
supernatural elements in addition to the mafia theme. But they’re really done well. DISCLAIMER: I wrote a side
contract for this game, and have recently started proofreading for this game, so take this recommendation
with that in mind.

Unleashed

Synopsis: Unleashed is a slice-of-life Visual Novel designed to play around with your expectations. To do that it
begins in the stereotypical way that many VN's begin. You might see hints throughout that allude to things
being a little different. You, the male main character, are on your way to your first year in college. An early fire
at the dorms has left the student body scrambling to find alternative housing. Luckily, your father is old friends
with a local mother and her two daughters, and she was kind enough to offer you a room.
My take: Unleashed is more character focused than plot-driven so far. Some great humor. Best conversational
dialog and CB uses a lot of show-not-tell. This was the game that first made me realize that the love interests in
these games could be written as distinct personalities and not just waifus. Disclaimer: I do some occasional 3d-
asset related things for CB, who is also a friend. So bear my recommendation with that in mind.
Recommended Story Games
I have greatly enjoyed all of the games in the recommended list. Why aren’t they in the highly recommended section? It could be because they're too
new to really have built up confidence in the storytelling yet, or perhaps because they don’t inspire the same depth of emotional resonance, or maybe
because of the inclusion of gameplay elements that I don't enjoy. But don't let that dissuade you. These are awesome games.
