The presente simple tense

We use present simple tense to express a present action or something that exists.

Affirmative form

Rule: Subject + main verb + object / complement

Eg:  They + go + to school alone
She travels alone
We give many books
She cries a lot.
He is a teacher.
They are here.
We study French.

Verb to go in affirmative form of present simple:

I go
You go

He  goes
She  goes
It goes

We  go
You  go
They go

Na torma negativa do  present simple, nós usamos o verbo auxiliar to do e o advérbio
not (do not) que na terceira pessoa do singular torna-se does not que significa não
em português.

Ex: Do not   (don't) > não

Does not  (doesn't) > não
I don't speak English.-----eu não falo inglês.
I don't like cinema.--------
She doesn't like beach.---

Note: but with the verb to be (ser, estar) and modal verbs( can, may, etc...) we only use
"not".
Examples:
I am not a teacher.
I can not be
He is not good.
We are not Angolans.
They are not here.
I am not sick.
He is not clever.
We are not innocent.
They are not presidents.

Negative form

Rule: Subject + don't/ doesn't + main verb + object.

Eg: They don't go to school alone.
 She doesn't travel alone.
 We don't give many books.
 She doesn't cry a lot.
 We are not well.
 They are not our friends.

Verb to go in negative form of present simple:

I don't go ]
You don't go ¦
¦
He doesn't go \
She doesn't go   > + object / complement
It doesn't go  /
¦
We don't  go  ¦
You don't go ¦
They don't go ]

Na forma interrogativa do present simples, nós usamos também o verbo auxiliar to

do, na terceira pessoa do singular torna-se does, que não se traduz em português mas é
simplesmente usado para indicar uma frase na forma interrogativa.

Interrogative form

Rule: Do /does + Subject + main verb + object /complement + ?

Eg:  Do they go to school alone ?
 Does she travel alone?
 Do we give many books?
 Does She cry a lot?

Note: Mas com o verbo TO BE , não se usa o don't or doesn't, mas sim inverte-se o verbo com
pronome pessoal:  Are They here?
 Am I sick?
 Is He clever?
 Are We innocent?
