1 General Information
This note contains important integration manager (IM) settings for integrating the R5 Supreme
AIS with the NACOS Platinum product range. Furthermore the 3410 -> R5 Supreme AIS adapter-
kit is introduced. The adapter-kit allows for quick and easy exchange of the AIS3410, where there
is little space for the separate junction-box and transponder. The adapter-kit is meant for
retrofitting on NACOS Platinum equipped vessels to preserve AIS 3410 spare part stock for
XX[3,4,5] NACOS.

IEC Standard
The IEC 61993-2 Ed2 allows the Platinum System to communicate with the AIS via non-
proprietary NMEA Telegrams required for integration with the R5 Supreme AIS.

Password
Some settings in the AIS are password protected like changing static information of the AIS. This
is required by IEC. Each R5 Supreme AIS transponder has user as the default password, not
USER.
3 AIS 3410 -> R5 Supreme adapter kit installation guide
The adapter kit can be ordered by using following material number:

Step1: Take apart the kit and mount the junction box onto the base plate

Step 2: Mount the base plate on the location where the AIS3410 was installed. Note: the holes of
the base plate and the AIS 3410 match.
Step 3: Insert the required ship-cables and ground them accordingly using tie-wraps as depicted
below. Note: there is a guidance underneath the PCB for the tip of the wraps so it’s fairly easy to
insert them.
Step 4: Wire the cables accordingly using the quick reference or the R5 Supreme AIS manual.

Step 5: Slide the top plate from the front or from the back of the junction-box in place and mount
the transceiver on top.

cables together as depicted below.

4 NACOS Platinum software update

5 Configuration upload Platinum NACOS > R5 Supreme AIS
How and when will the R5 Supreme AIS receive its configuration?
Note: Prerequisite is that the Platinum NACOS has been configured via the IM as described in
section 2.
During the boot sequence of any Platinum MFD, running navigation applications, the AisBackend
process is started and will request from the attached R5 Supreme AIS its identity (MMSI). The
Platinum NACOS uses the retrieved MMSI and the password of the AIS to address it and change
any settings required.
This means if in case an exchange of a transponder on a vessel in service is necessary, it
requires only restarting any MFD as last action.

Initiate the boot sequence from Loadmaster computer – normally MFD-01.
Check IM to be sure wich is the Loadmaster computer
Finally check that the correct information is transmitted.
