Porter's Five Forces is a model that identifies and analyzes five competitive forces that shape every
industry and helps determine an industry's weaknesses and strengths. Five Forces analysis is frequently
used to identify an industry's structure to determine corporate strategy. Porter's model can be applied to
any segment of the economy to understand the level of competition within the industry and enhance a
company's long-term profitability. The Five Forces model is named after Harvard Business School
professor, Michael E. Porter.
The Porter's Five Forces model is a framework that can be used to analyze the competitiveness of a
business or industry. Here's an application of the model to Shree Gajanana Rice Mill:
1. Threat of new entrants: Shree Gajanana Rice Mill operates in the highly competitive rice
milling industry. The threat of new entrants is moderate because the industry requires
significant capital investment, regulatory compliance, and technical expertise. However, if the
barriers to entry are lowered, new players can easily enter the market, intensifying competition.
2. Bargaining power of suppliers: Shree Gajanana Rice Mill sources raw materials such as
paddy from farmers and traders. The bargaining power of suppliers is relatively low as there
are several suppliers available, and the company can easily switch suppliers to obtain better
prices or quality.
3. Bargaining power of buyers: Shree Gajanana Rice Mill's customers include wholesalers,
retailers, and individual consumers. The bargaining power of buyers is high because of the low
switching costs and the availability of substitutes. Buyers can easily switch to other suppliers or
substitute products if the price or quality of rice is not satisfactory.
4. Threat of substitutes: The threat of substitutes for rice is low as rice is a staple food in many
cultures and does not have a direct substitute. However, consumers may switch to other
varieties of rice or grains if the price or quality of Shree Gajanana Rice Mill's products is not
competitive.
5. Competitive rivalry: The rice milling industry is highly competitive with several established
players and new entrants. The competitive rivalry is high, and the market is fragmented. The
key differentiators are product quality, price, distribution network, and customer service. Shree
Gajanana Rice Mill needs to continually innovate and differentiate its products to remain
competitive in the market.
CHAPTER 4
SWOT ANALYSIS
SWOT is the most common tool for a company-situation analysis. It is a strategic planning used to
evaluate the Strength, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats that are involved in a project or in a
business. It involves specifying the objectives of business venture or project and identifying the
internal and external factors that are favorable and unfavorable to achieve the objective.

LEARNING EXPERIENCE
On the first day of reporting to the organization, the management allotted a project guide Mr. Ambresh
Hiremath to assist in the course of organizational study.
During the internship I have learned things which has enriched as a person as well
as a professional. At the personal level, I have learnt many soft skills like working in a team, sharing
of knowledge, patience, listening skill, co-operating and hardworking capacity. Internship provided an
Opportunity to know what it is like to work in an Office and perform in a Professional Manner, and to
apply Professional Skills and Talents.
It was the opportunity to apply the concepts of various Contemporary Management
Practices in the Organization, studied during the Course. It was a chance that developed
communication skills and interpersonal skills, that helped to build the knowledge base.
Initially as an intern, got introduced into the company by the Assistant Manager &
was introduced to the Group manager who in turn introduced mentors and colleagues with whom, I
was supposed to be working and coordinating with. In initial days I was placed in the operation
department of the company where I spent most of the time. I was initially asked to observe and get
hold of things before I was assigned work.
I have understood the requirements of the job and process the information on how
it works in Rice Industry. It helps me to plan, organize and prioritize the work assigned based on the
guidelines established by the company. It also enables me to categorize the assignments by due dates
and level of priority.
Maintaining accuracy and transparency is the most difficult factor in the
organization structure. It requires in-depth knowledge and utmost concentration to each and every
detail of the work assigned. This helped in keeping me focused.
In-order to get work done, I had to communicate with multiple departments in the
organization. This helped me to improve my communication and negotiation skills. I had been given an
opportunity to understand the process flow of inventory management, procurement, sales. This gave
me an insight on how the inventory has been managed and utilized in a manufacturing industry. This
helped me to understand the operational structure of an organization.
