Personal Statement
I always been fascinated by the power of technology to solve complex problems. As
a child, I enjoyed playing video games and tinkering with computers. As I grew older,
I became interested in programming and learned how to code in several programming
languages. One day, I stumbled upon an article about a group of computer scientists
who had developed an AI algorithm that could predict the onset of a disease with
remarkable accuracy. The algorithm was being used in a clinical trial to help doctors
diagnose patients with early-stage diseases before the symptoms became apparent.
This incident deeply inspired me, and I realized that with my passion for programming
and problem-solving, I too could make a significant contribution to the field of
computer science. So I decided to pursue a Masters in Computer Science to learn
more about AI, machine learning, and data science, and to develop the skills needed
to create innovative solutions that could change people's lives. I was motivated to
use my knowledge and skills to work on projects that could make a positive impact
on society, whether it's creating intelligent systems to diagnose diseases or
developing algorithms to help detect and prevent cyber attacks. This incident was a
turning point in my life and inspired me to pursue a career in Computer Science.
For my academic pursuits, I studied B. Tech in Computer Science Engineering from
Vellore Institute of Technology. My coursework in Advanced Calculus and Complex
Analysis, Probability and Discrete Mathematics has helped me develop an
appreciation for quantitative and logical reasoning that is fundamental to
understanding and advancing in the field of machine learning and data science. While
working on a project on "Technical Answers for Real World Problems," I was able to
monitor the fall detection for the elderly. This required us to work on patterns based
on IoT for the assistance of the elderly. We continuously monitored the state of the
person and provided immediate response whenever needed. This project was
approved with the help of Arduino nano, Twilio API, accelerometer, Wi-Fi, and
bluetooth modules. Working on a project named Automated Traffic Signal Lights
helped me understand the great potential of implementation using basic
microcontrollers to enhance the safety on roads. The basic principle was the use of
IR sensors in four different directions. These projects augmented my implementation
and problem-solving skills, and I became practically acquainted with various concepts
and modules to be better able to design or monitor a program.
Alongside my undergraduate program, I interned at Xenonstack, where I worked as
a Software Intern, ad was responsible for React and Robotic Process Automation
(RPA), email automation, interacting with websites and web applications, extracting
data from the web sources using automation and reducing the manual workload.
After graduation, I joined Deloitte as an Analyst. In this role, I have designed and
executed customer loan journeys for an Equipment Financial Firm on Sales Cloud with
the use of LWC, Salesforce configuration/customization and Apex for integration
framework involving Rest API in Agile framework. I had interacted proactively with
clients to ascertain their requirements and proposed effective solutions. I was
responsible for working on new initiatives for upcoming releases with Architects and
Product Owners along with design discussions and planning.
My work experience has also helped me understand the wide range of applications in
the realm of Computer Science, but made me realize that there is still a lot to learn,
and thus I want to enroll in your university's MS program in Computer Science so
that I can close that gap and become an individual with more knowledge and skills in
the field of Computer Science and develop meaningful and more sophisticated
technologies which will benefit people. Through this program, I seek to develop
strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, while also shaping my
technical dexterity. I seek to attain expertise in the core areas of computer Science
and translate all my knowledge towards my role at a reputed firm, with the aim to
develop solutions to real-world problems. I also want to engage in meaningful
research and contribute my exposure towards the sphere of innovation. With a
master's degree in Computer Science, I want to deepen my understanding of data
science methods, develop my analytical skills, comprehend the data and to solve
complex business problems. Furthering my computer science education can be an
excellent way to make a career change.
According to my research, the master’s degree in Computer Science offered by
University of West Florida will not only help in acquiring new-age skills but will help
me to tackle business situations in a practical way. I believe that the program will
enhance my knowledge in these multiple domains through its well-rounded
curriculum and prepare me to tackle such problems through an interdisciplinary
approach. The alignment of the courses and the modern facilities on campus inspired
me to pursue my master's degree at University of West Florida. Through my passion
for learning, excellent communication skills, and work ethic, I am confident that I will
make a positive contribution to the university.
My penchant for excellence not only pushed me towards obtaining the best grades
but also inspired me to work for my holistic growth. I took part in various
extracurricular activities including a 10km run to raise awareness on cancer. I believe
that ultimate success lies in making a positive contribution to society, making our
beautiful world a better place to live, and making people smile, especially the poor.
As an active National Service Plan (NSS) Volunteer, I had the privilege of organizing
a welfare camp for people living in remote areas of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Through
organizing the events in TechnoVIT - An International Level Technical Festival of VIT,
I learned leadership skills and many other valuable lessons.4
With my interests inclined more towards solving everyday problems and the never-
ending urge to learn something new every day. I see my potential getting recognized
by University of West Florida because of its focus on individual growth and
development. The erudite facilities offered by the university are remarkable. The
worldwide recognition that the USA degree holds has steered me further to apply for
the course of my dreams in the USA for a more impactful career, knowledge, and
experience.
I am filled with energy to contribute to the people who have either inspired me or
helped me in getting trained in the field of computer science. I bring with me the zest
to serve the lands where I gained knowledge on the subjects of my interest and the
zeal to deal with complex problems.
