Read the story ) | © = Word recognition © = Language comprehension
Look through the pictures briefly to see what happens. Ask,
“What has Chip used for the arms and legs of the robot?”

alone if he/she is confident. Remind him/her to sound out the
letters from left to right when working out a word.
On each page, talk about the model and what Chip has done.
Ask, "Why didn’t the others know what Chip was making?”
At the end, ask, “What do you like about Chip’s robot?”
Turn to the back cover and ask the child to read the list of

Body parts
This helps to build children's vocabulary.
® Find the words ‘arm’, ‘leg’ and ‘head’ in the book.
@ Ask the child what other parts of the body he/she can name.
@ Then take it in turns to point to and name a part of the body.
Introduce words the child might not know, such as ‘nostrils’, ‘wrist’
© Write the words in a list, then read them together.
You can use these ideas straight away, or on another day.
© Find all the question marks in the story. Read the sentences
again, showing the child how to read questions
© Let the child build a robot, or anything else he/she wants to, using
glue and grocery boxes. (Always supervise the use of scissors.)NF sors003 2 res
