Reaction Paper on Scientific Report

The document is a reaction paper about a scientific report on the physico-chemical properties of dehydrated Flacourtia jangomas as influenced by sugar levels. The reaction paper summarizes the structure and key elements of the scientific report, including the title, abstract, introduction, methods, results, discussion, acknowledgements, and literature cited sections. The student found that the scientific report was well-structured and contained sufficient details in most sections, though some areas like the discussion could be improved. The experience reinforced for the student the value of research and motivation to work hard in their own studies in food technology.

REACTION PAPER

I was instructed to do a reaction paper for a scientific report or article entitled “Physico- Chemical
Properties of Dehydrated Seriales (Flacourtia Jangomas (LOUR) Raeusch) as Influenced by Sugar Levels” by
Heidi Paler and Lynnette C. Cimafranca. With this, I have prepared my thoughts/ insights on how the article
was made/written, and its structure.

1. Title:
The title reflected the content and emphasis of the research described in the report. It is brief and
concise and containing essential key words and also includes the authors or the researchers’ name.

2. Abstract/ Summary:
It helped me to judge or comprehend whether it would serve its purposes, if I will be read up to the
entire report. It is concise containing an average of 100 to 200 words as summary of the purpose of the report,
the data presented, including the authors’ or researchers’ major conclusions.

3. Introduction:
It has a good introduction with clear statement of the research or report. It contains a straightforward
layout that focuses on what is being described or studied" The introduction for me also describe clearly but
briefly the background information and effects of the processes that have undergone.

4. Methods:
The researchers/ authors of the scientific research/ report used localized materials/specimen
harvested in the Philippines. With this, it includes sufficient scientifical processes and methods used for the
materials are reported in this section. The difficulty in this section is it doesn’t provide enough detail me to
understand the different terms used. But, for me it is sufficiently detailed that other experienced researchers
were properly cited with their other findings that greatly contributed to the work and obtain comparable
results. Generally, this section attempts to answer the following questions: What materials were used? How
were they used? Where and when was the work done? This helped me to understand the flow of the
processes being done as it also provided tables, formulas, and a good flow chart.

5. Results:
It summarizes the data gathered from the experiment. It provided enough detail for me to understand
the experiment by using tables, figures, and graphs. It also has descriptive titles and includes a legend
explaining any symbols, abbreviations, or special methods used.
6. Discussion:
It is sufficiently detailed where in this section provided data with the effects of the different variables
used in the material or specimen. For me, it emphasizes the interpretation of the data, relating them to
existing theory and knowledge. Speculation is appropriate if it is so identified. Hence, there are suggestions for
the improvement of techniques or experimental design are lacking here. It should include additional
suggestions for future experiments that might clarify areas of doubt in the results.

7. Acknowledgement:
The researchers or authors are very polite and considerate in giving thanks to all the stakeholders who
greatly contributed for the success of their research/ experiment.

8. Literature Cited:
The literature cited are organized, labeled properly and arranged in a well-manner, which coincide with
its references.

9. Appendix:
There are no necessary appendixes found on the report or research

THOUGHTS/INSIGHTS:
For me, I have learned that doing your own research or experiment needs a huge amount of guts and
efforts. Trully, the world of science and technology is fascinating wherein one’s effort could lead to greater
heights. So, as a Food Technology student, I will strive and study harder and used other peoples’ innovations
and experiments as a motivation that I could be them someday.
