Community-Based Corrections in the Philippines

Non-institutional or community-based correction allows convicted criminals to remain in the community rather than serving time in prison. It involves procedures like suspended sentences for young offenders, aftercare services, open prison programs, pardon, and parole. The advantages include jail decongestion, lower government spending, rehabilitation of offenders, and allowing offenders to support their families. However, it can also lead to discrimination, unfairness to victims, lack of monitoring, and higher risk of reoffending. These programs contribute to the Philippine government by allowing offenders to engage in work or school while serving their sentence.
