Tension and Compression Sign Convention

This document contains calculations for bending stresses in the bottom flange of a monorail according to CMAA Specification 74. Stresses were calculated at three points along the flange. The resultant biaxial stresses were then determined. All stresses were found to be below the allowable stress level of 33 ksi, indicating the design is acceptable.
