APPLICATION PROCESS
1. Nomination through partner university
Send an email to incoming@[Link] with the
following information of the nominated student:
Last name
First name
Date of birth
Level of studies (Bachelor, Master, PhD)
Field of study
Email address
*Please note, that this nomination does not guarantee a fixed spot at
Montanuniversität Leoben since we need to verify the prerequisites at
first before we can officially accept you.
2. Application through Mobility-Online
Students will receive an email with a link for the online
application.
Documents to be uploaded in Mobility-Online by students:
MIRO application form
Learning Agreement
Proof of language qualification (B2/TOEFL 78/IELTS 6.0)
Curriculum Vitae
Transcript of Records in English or German
High-School leaving certificate
Copy of passport/ID card
For MSc or PhD students: BSc or MSc certificate

For applicants from outside EU/EEA:
Proof of financial capacity
Confirmation of health insurance (travel, health, accident,
liability)
For applicants whose stay is focused on research/writing an
academic paper:
Supervisor request form (template available in Mobility-Online)
3. Montanuniversität Leoben proofs your application
Once the student has been accepted by the university an email
will be sent out. The Letter of Invitation can then be downloaded
from Mobility-Online. If an official Letter of Invitation is required
please contact international@[Link].
PROOF OF LANGUAGE SKILLS
For being accepted as an exchange student at
Montanuniversität Leoben you have to proof an English Level of
at least Level B2 according to CEFR.
ACCEPTED PROOFS: TOEFL (78 points), IELTS (6.0), Cambridge
Certificates or Certificates that have been issued by a language
center or language institute of your home university.
IMPORTANT: Certificate has to test all four skills (listening,
reading, writing/grammar, speaking)

COURSES
After the final registration at the university students are able
to register for courses online. Most of the Bachelor‘s courses
are taught in German. Many of the Master‘s courses are
taught in English. Incoming Bachelor‘s students are allowed
to take Master‘s classes if they have already completed min.
90 ECTS in their Bachelor‘s studies.
We recommend to take at least 16 ECTS/semester.
WELCOME ORIENTATION SESSION
All new incoming students have to attend the compulsory
Welcome Orientation Session on September 18.
Intensive English Course for incoming students:
Winter Semester: September 18 - September 29, 2023
Summer Semester: February 16 - February 29, 2024
Montanuniversität Leoben covers the costs for the course
and students will receive 3 ECTS.

ENTRY & RESIDENCE
Students with EU/EEA citizenship can enter Austria without a
visa.
Students from non EU/EEA countries need to apply for a VISA D
when staying for 180 days and for a residence permit - student
when staying for more than 180 days in Austria.
Students, who are allowed to enter Austria visa free may
submit their application at the municipal residence authority
in Leoben.

HEALTH INSURANCE
EU/EEA citizens who have a national health insurance in their
home country can use this insurance also in Austria.
Non EU/EEA citizens need to proof a health insurance covering
all risks when applying for a visa/residence permit.
If you need help in obtaining a health insurance for Austria
please contact incoming@[Link].
*Please note, that the university does not cover any damages connected
to a missing health insurance of the student.

ACCOMMODATION
Most of our international students live in one of Leoben‘s
student dormitories. The OeAD housing office is Austria‘s main
provider of accommodation for international students from
around the world.

Rental costs: variable, depending on the individual room
and residence, starting around 280 euros per month (bed
in a double room with shared bathroom/kitchenette)
Registration deadlines for student residences are published on
the relevant website for each one. Please note that all student
residences in Leoben accommodate both male and female
students.
