Lesson Settings, Processes, Methods
1 and tools in Communication

Throughout this chapter we’ve been considering messages sent via email
because it is the most common channel for written communication purposes, business
messages, or any aspects that may determine the purpose of communicating others
especially the rising of pandemic crisis that is facing today by many, struggling and
fighting amidst of catastrophes people has to dealt with in the means of persistence.
However, many professionals or individuals make the mistake of sending an email when
another channel (e.g., a verbal rather than a written one) would be more appropriate for
the situation and the audience. If you had deal with inappropriate behavior in the
workplace, for instance, the right thing to do is discuss it in person with all involved
because conflict resolution requires social intelligence informed by all the verbal and
nonverbal information you can gather from them. You could follow up with an email
summarizing a remedial action plan reached through constructive dialogue, but you
would never deal with the situation by email alone.

What’s New

In a nutshell, communication channels are mediums through which you can send
a message to its intended audience. For example, phone calls, text messages, emails,
video, radio, and social media are all types of communication channels. In an institution,
communication channels keep information flowing efficiently. A breakdown in any
channel, such as phone lines being down, could leave individuals misinformed or left in
the dark. On the flip side, effective communication channels can enhance productivity
and help you make better decisions as a team.

What is It

Communication Channels
Face-to-face channels such as meetings, public appearances, live web chats,
events and open houses offer the advantage of immediate feedback (and, you never
know, the possibility of hoisting a megaphone).
Interactive social media channels such as blogs, discussion forums, Twitter
and YouTube also offer immediacy and the benefit of two-way communication.
Mobile and social media update channels such as blogs, Twitter and
Facebook page offer a way to communicate in a personal way. They also offer the
added advantage of shareability.
Traditional print channels such as email, memos and releases accurate
information.
Traditional print advertising channels such as brochures, flyers, newspapers
and direct mail offer a key advantage readers often bestow upon the printed word:
credibility.
Traditional broadcast channels such as radio and TV advertising offer wide
range and the ability to reach new audience members.
