Fire Reporting Procedures

 “S.P.E.E.D.”
 Sound the Alarm

Fire Extinguishers

Class A - Wood, paper, cloth, trash,


plastics. Solid combustible materials that
are not metals.

Class B - Flammable liquids: gasoline, oil,


grease, acetone. Any non-metal in a liquid
state, on fire.

Class C - Electrical: energized electrical


equipment
As long as it's "plugged in," it would be
considered a class C fire.
Fire Extinguishers

Class D - Metals: potassium,


sodium, aluminum, magnesium.
Unless you work in a laboratory or
near aircraft, it is unlikely you'll
have to deal with a Class D fire.
Special extinguishing agents and
training are required.

 P- Pull the Pin

 A- Aim the Nozzle

 S- Squeeze the Handle

 Start 10 –20 feet away from
the fire
 A 10 lb ABC Extinguisher
will last 10 - 25 seconds
 Avoid inhaling the toxic
smoke
 Always position yourself
with an escape at your back
 Inspect your extinguisher
once a month

Locations
Fire extinguishers should be located near
the main entrances and exits.

Travel distance to reach a fire extinguisher


should be no more than 75 ft, industrial
areas no more than 50 ft.

The top of the extinguisher should be no more


than 5 ft and the bottom no lower than 4 in
from the floor

Maintain 18 in clearance around the


extinguisher and allow clear path of travel to
the extinguisher

 Per AFOSH STD 91-501 Chapter 6
 [Link].1. The sponsor of each MFH unit is responsible for a
monthly test and examination of all household warning devices
installed within the quarters. The test and examination of these
devices shall include:
 [Link].1.1. Inspecting the physical appearance of the
devices for evidence of damage, abuse, tampering, or other
indications that may render it inoperative.
 [Link].1.2. Ensuring the units are securely mounted.

 [Link].1.3. Conducting an operational test according to the


manufacturer’s guidance to ensure the audible alarm is
working.

authorized in MFH but
should never be left
unattended.
