LDS concept

Concept:

LDS - The concept behind Robie House


To organize the concept, we determined 3 main
aspects:

1- "L" of Layers. The design by Frank Loyd


Wright proposes a distribution of layers. These
are hierarchized according to the corresponding
floor. The ground level is enclosed by a parapet,
which is located next to the sideway. The second
layer is represented by the second floor. This
space is recessed a few meters from the side-
walk, giving the owner of the house a private
space, where you can see the neighbourhood,
but the pedestrians can't see you. The third floor
contains the dormitories, therefore the most
private space of the house. This layer is recessed
from the second floor.

2- "D" of Depth. Every floor (or layer) has its


depth produced by the deep canopies.

3- The depth produces shadows "S". The cano- Architects: Frank lloyd wright
pies create areas of shadow, which amplifies the Location: chicago, Illinois
sense of volume of the house.

The idea behind the intervention is to follow the criteria from


the concept and because the house is an museum, it should be
intervene as low as possible to let the visitors enjoy as much
they can. In this case, the proposal is to guide the tour through
the house by going to the underground floor directly to the
first floor
ground floor. There you have some walls that look like they are
flying in the space. They are located in a way that you can see
the layers or planes of the walls that creates shadows and
depht. They also are horizontal as the facade of the house. This
walls contain historycal information about the house and create
a route that goes to the first floor. Then you go down again to
the underground floor, where you have another intervention in
the area of the billiard room.
