Classroom Project

This project analyzed the relationship between centroids and polygons for accurate topographic surveys and construction site planning. Centroids are points representing the average location of an object's total area. Polygons are geometric shapes formed by line segments connected at their endpoints. The project studied how centroids and polygons work together for measurement and analysis in construction processes.

CLASSROOM PROJECT

CENTROIDS
APPLIED ON A TRAVERSE
WE DID?
This project is born from the implementation of measurements and topographic analysis that exists in the
construction process.

This work team took as its starting point, the development of topographic surveys for the creation of a constructive
work. The purpose is to analyze the bridge and relationship that exists between the centroid (element "a" of study,
related to the matter of physics) and polygonal (element "b" of study, related to the matter of planimetry) and how
these two elements , work together for the correct planning and development of a construction site. (field of work
where elements a and b apply)

The relationship is established in the search development and correct implementation of the centroid (point where
the total area of a figure is considered to be concentrated) this to generate measurements with extreme accuracy
in topographic surveys (such as polygonal ones which can be defined as a succession of straight lines connecting
a series of fixed points.

CENTROIDS
dIt is the point where the total area of a figure is considered to be
concentrated, where the geometric center of the flat and
homogeneous body is supposed to be located. The centroid of a
figure of regular shape is determined by locating its geometric
center as illustrated in the following figures.

POLYGONAL
Image result for what is a polygonal
A polygonal line is one formed by segments joined at their ends in
such a way that two consecutive segments are not aligned.
Polygonal lines can be open or closed. Only open traverses can
be drawn with this tool.

HOW TO FIND THE CENTROID OF A POLYGON?

For line, polygon, or three-dimensional features, it is the center of

mass (or center of gravity) and can be inside or outside the
feature. For multipoints, polylines, or multipart polygons, the
centroid is calculated using the weighted average center of all
parts of the feature.

GRAVITY CENTER
The center of gravity is the point through which the force of gravity
acts on an object or a system. In most mechanics problems, the
gravitational field is assumed to be uniform. So the center of
gravity is in exactly the same position as the center of mass.

CENTER OF GRAVITY PROPERTIES

The center of gravity of a body can be inside or outside the body. -

The center of gravity does not vary with position, but it does
depend on its geometric shape. - If a body presents an axis of
symmetry, the center of gravity will be at a point contained in said
axis.
