Project Duration Start Date: September 4, 2023
Completion: July 10, 2024
Project Title
Project SILAW
Project Description
The "Project SILAW" is to instill a love of reading in learners by
establishing an interesting and supportive atmosphere that supports
reading habits. The project will be carried out at Cambajao Elementary
School and will benefit learners of all grade levels. It seeks to improve the
literacy abilities, broaden the knowledge, and nurture lifelong learners by
establishing a love of reading in them.
This project will create an immersive reading experience for learners
via a variety of activities. It will provide lively reading spaces throughout
the school, including warm corners and outdoor areas, stocked with a
wide variety of books, magazines, and digital resources. Reading
challenges and contests will be held to encourage learners to establish
reading objectives and measure their progress.
In addition, a mini library will be established, allowing learners to
participate in vibrant conversations and improve critical thinking abilities.
Throughout the academic year, the project will conduct themed reading
activities and celebrations, such as Read-a-Thons and Storytelling
Festivals, to foster a love of reading.
It will include parents in order to ensure long-term sustainability by
arranging orientations that emphasize the significance of reading and
give ideas for developing a reading-friendly home environment. Regular
evaluations and comments from learners, teachers, and parents will
assist us in determining the project's effectiveness and making required
modifications.
This project hopes to enable learners to become ardent readers by
implementing the "Project SILAW", which will open doors to knowledge,
imagination, and personal growth.

Background and rationale
In today's digital world, where distractions abound,
establishing reading habits among learners is more crucial than
ever. Reading improves not just reading abilities but also critical
thinking, knowledge expansion, and imagination. However,
evidence shows that learner reading engagement and literacy
rates are declining. As a result, the school project aimed at making
learners readers has emerged as a critical undertaking.
The project's origins may be traced back to the realization that
reading can have a significant influence on learners' academic
success, cognitive growth, and general well-being. The project
hopes to enable children to become lifelong learners who explore
the world via books by developing a passion of reading in them.
The project's premise is based on the concept that reading is a
habit to be fostered rather than a talent to be mastered. This
project hopes to make reading a pleasurable and rewarding activity
by fostering an engaged and supportive atmosphere inside the
school. The initiative honors literature's ability to create empathy,
cultural awareness, and a larger perspective. Furthermore, reading
opens the door to new viewpoints, sparks curiosity, and
encourages self-expression.
The project intends to address the fall in reading engagement,
increase literacy skills, and raise a generation of critical thinkers
and lifelong readers by executing this initiative. The love of reading
allows learners to realize their full potential and begin on a lifelong
path of discovery and personal progress.
