Preamble
In Year 1 of the Bachelor of Education degree, you began your ‘teacher journey’. The metaphor of the
journey is quite useful when thinking about your development as a teacher. The ‘teacher
journey’ represents your journey in becoming a ‘Newly Qualified Teacher’ and your development thus
far. Your journey will continue once you enter the teaching profession, with a lifelong commitment to
continuous professional development. In this final Teaching Experience module, we aim to ensure that
you have understood the role of reflection in teaching practice and have developed the skills and habits
to continue to reflect on your practice throughout your teacher journey. If you constantly think about
your progress and reflect on what changes you need to make, you will continue to move forwards.
Teaching Experience, Year 4, has been allocated 8 weeks of school-based WIL. This will be divided into
2 blocks, as shown in the table below:

Task Instructions
Task 1: Developing your Professional Identity
DESCRIPTION
Your Professional Identity Log is an opportunity for you to reflect on your teacher journey thus
far, critically review your teaching practice and showcase your professional identity in the format
of an eBook. In showcasing your professional identity in the format of an eBook, you also have an
opportunity to showcase your skills as a 21st century teacher. All tasks in this log will constitute
towards the final presentation of your eBook, that will be submitted as a link on Learn.
Below is a summary of all tasks that should be submitted in the eBook:

INSTRUCTIONS
Task 1.1: eBook (30 Marks)
For this task you are required to design your eBook using the Book Creator (available online). All
tasks in the Professional Identity Log will be presented in this eBook. For Task 1.1 you will be
awarded marks for your design, creativity and digital fluency; organisation and structure; and how
you portray your professional identity as showcased in the presentation of your eBook. This is
your opportunity to showcase your 21st-century teaching skills and create your professional
identity creatively and dynamically.
Follow the instructions below and refer to your module on Learn for further support:
• Access the website [Link]
• Use the free website version of Book Creator, you are not required to pay for the App.
• Sign up for free.
• Select sign up as a teacher.
• Design your eBook, including all tasks below.
• Publish your eBook online by selecting the share button.
• Select ‘Publish online’ option (choose the private setting).
• Copy the link to your eBook and submit this link as the final submission

• Upload the link to your eBook on Learn, under ‘My Portfolio’, Professional Identity Log for
your final PoE submission.

Task 1.2. Your Teaching Philosophy (20 Marks)
Re-creating your teaching philosophy in this final Teaching Experience module is your first step
in developing your professional identity as a teacher.
• Critically examine your previous Teaching Philosophy, reflecting on your personal
experiences in the classroom.
• Refine your assumptions and beliefs about how teaching should be conducted and how
learners learn best in the classroom.
• Re-create your personal teaching philosophy.
• Present your personal teaching philosophy in your eBook.
Submission Instructions:
• Submit Task 1.2. Your Teaching Philosophy in your eBook created in Task 1.1.
• Upload the link to your eBook on Learn, under ‘My Portfolio’, Professional Identity Log for
your final PoE submission.
Task 1.3. Your Classroom Management (40 Marks)
As you enter the profession as a beginner teacher, it is important that you are able to articulate
your classroom management strategies and showcase your classroom management tools,
informed by theory. In this task, you are required to translate your theory into practice. This is an
opportunity to be creative and find a approach to classroom management that resonates with
you. Remember that your classroom management tool should not be punitive, but rather based
on a strategy that leads to sustained positive behaviour and allows for optimum teaching and
learning.
Before Teaching Experience:
• Read at least two academic articles on the topic of classroom management available in
the Learning Unit on Learn.
• Explore a classroom management tool that resonates with you and is aligned to the
theoretical underpinnings of optimal classroom management.
During Teaching Experience:
• Create the classroom management tool.
• Your classroom management tool should be a creative, original and fun tool that is
respectful to all and allows meaningful teaching and learning to occur without undue time
spent on calling learner’s attention to the task on hand.
• Implement your classroom management tool in your teaching.
• Take a photograph of the tool (Do NOT take photographs of the learners).
• Reflect on the success of both the tool and make notes for yourself.
Showcase your classroom management tool in your eBook:
• Justify the theoretical underpinnings of your selected classroom management tool.
• Include a photograph of the tool (Do NOT take photographs of the learners) and a
description of how this tool is used.
• Reflect on the success and/or vulnerabilities on the implementation of your tool.

• Submit Task 1.3. Your Classroom Management in your eBook created in Task 1.1.
• Upload the link to your eBook on Learn, under ‘My Portfolio’, Professional Identity Log for
your final PoE submission.
Task 1.4 Your CV (20 marks)
Design a comprehensive CV that you will use to apply for a teaching position at a school. Your CV
must be accurate in all respects and reflect your potential to contribute to the schooling system.
Your campus Career Centre Coordinator (CCC) will be available you guide you on the principles of
CV design.
• Design your CV
• Present your CV in your eBook either as a link or embedded in the eBook.
Note: Your CV will be marked out of 15 marks.
Your LinkedIn profile:
• Access the website [Link]
• Join LinkedIn
• Edit your public profile on LinkedIn
• Copy the url for your personal LinkedIn profile
• Submit the link to your LinkedIn profile in your eBook
Note: Five marks will be awarded under this task if you have created your LinkedIn profile
and included a link to access your personal Linkedin profile in your eBook.
Submission Instructions:
• Submit Task 1.4. Your CV in your eBook created in Task 1.1.
• Upload the link to your eBook on Learn, under ‘My Portfolio’, Professional Identity Log for
your final PoE submission.
Task 1.5. Your Teaching Blog (10 marks)
In this task you will join an online professional community by creating and showcasing your
Teaching Blog. The aim of this task is to develop your online presence as a beginner teacher in the
21st century.

• Select website type – Blog.
• Setup your Teaching Blog. You can use the following resource to help you:

• Create a blog post of at least 400 words for each of the reflection tasks listed below.
• Refer to the instructions under “Reflection” in the following Teaching Experience Logs:
o Service-learning Log
o Microteaching Log
o Teaching Log (Task 2: Life of a teacher)
• Comment on at least two of your peers for each blog post.
