In a school, there are 12 classes and 30 teachers.
1. In each class, there are 35 students. How many students are
there in total?
2. If the students are divided equally among the teachers, what is
the number of the students each teacher is responsible for?
3. Most of the teachers are assigned to a homeroom. The
teachers are divided among the classes so there are an equal
number of homeroom teachers for each class. How many
homeroom teachers are assigned to each class?

4. How many teachers are not assigned a homeroom?
5. On Friday, 5 classes went on a field trip today. How many
students are left at the school?
6. Write an equation using “x” and then solve the equation.
According to the safety guidelines, one teacher is needed for
every 25 students on a field trip. Therefore, x teachers went on
the field trip with the 5 classes on Friday.

1. 35 x 12 = 420
There are 420 in total.
2. 420 ÷ 30 = 14
Each teacher is responsible for 14 students.
3. 30 ÷ 12 = 2 remainder 6
Each class are assigned with 2 homeroom teachers.
4. 30 ÷ 12 = 2 remainder 6
6 teachers are not assigned a homeroom.
5. 12 – 5 = 7 classes left
7 x 35 = 245
245 students are left in the school.
6. x = 35 x 5 ÷ 25
x=7
7 teachers went on the field trip.
