Lab manual # 03
Objective:
Communication between end devices
Theory:
Cisco Packet Tracer allows us to logically create a network topology without even
implementing it physically. Real Cisco devices (Routers and Switches) are very expensive
and hence do not come in the affordability of students hence with the help of Cisco Packet
Tracer, students can create, configure and troubleshoot a network with almost unlimited
devices.
End Devices:
Some devices like Host Computers, Laptops, Servers, and Printers are also available. We can
use them in our network as per our need.
Connection Media:
Media can be wired or wireless. In Cisco Packet Tracer, we have a lot of cables under the
name “Connections”. We have Copper Media, Coaxial media, Fiber media, Phone Media and
some more. We can use them to connect devices.
Procedure:
Implementing a network consisting of two computers respectively
Choose two same PC’s
Click once on PC0 and PC1 respectively
Choose the configuration tab
Do TCP/IP configuration
Connect the nodes through interconnecting device
Host IP address Subnet mask
PC0 [Link] [Link]
PC1 [Link] [Link]

Ways to check connectivity of devices
1. Real Time Mode
2. Ping Mode
3. Simulation Mode
1. Real Time Mode
In real-time mode the network behaves as real devices do, with immediate real-time
response for all network activities. The real-time mode gives students a viable
alternative to real equipment and allows them to gain configuration practice before
working with real equipment.
Select source PC and place the letter icon on it.
Then select the destination PC.
In the bottom right side, beneath real time, progress will be visible as shown.

2. [Link] command:
The ping command sends a sequence of ICMP echo request packets to the specified host.
Ping prints a special character for each packet indicating whether the router received the
corresponding echo reply.
Click on PC.
Select desktop, and click on command prompt.
Write ping(IP address on PC)
For checking connectivity with other computer, rewrite ping( IP address of other PC)

3. Simulation node:
In simulation mode the user can see and control time intervals, the inner workings of data
transfer, and the propagation of data across a network.
Select simulation on bottom left side on the window
Press play
