The Liturgy of the Word

First reading
(Zec 9:9-10)

A reading from the book of the Prophet Zechariah.

THUS says the LORD:
Rejoice heartily, O daughter Zion, shout
for joy, O daughter Jerusalem!
See, your king shall come to you; a just
savior is he, meek, and riding on an ass,
on a colt, the foal of an ass.
He shall banish the chariot from Ephraim,
and the horse from Jerusalem; the warrior's
bow shall be banished, and he shall
proclaim peace to the nations.
His dominion shall be from sea to sea,
and from the River to the ends of the earth.
-The Word of the Lord-

All: Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM
(Ps 145)

I WILL PRAISE YOUR NAME

FOREVER, MY KING AND MY
GOD.
1. I will extol you, O my God and King,/
and I will bless your name forever and
ever./ Every day will I bless you,/ and I
will praise your name forever and ever.
—(.R.)
2. The Lord is gracious and merciful,/
slow to anger and of great kindness./ The
Lord is good to all and compassionate
toward all his works.— (R.)
3. Let all your works give you thanks, O
Lord,/ and let your faithful ones bless
you./ Let them discourse of the glory of
your kingdom and speak of your might.—
(R.)
4. The Lord is faithful in all his words
and holy in all his works./ The Lord lifts

Second reading
(Rom 8:9, 11-13)

A reading from the letter of Saint Paul to the

Romans.

BROTHERS and sisters:

You are not in the flesh; on the contrary,
you are in the spirit, if only the Spirit of God
dwells in you. Whoever does not have the
Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.

If the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus

from the dead dwells in you, the one who
raised Christ from the dead will give life to
your mortal bodies also, through his Spirit that
dwells in you. Consequently, brothers and
sisters, we are not debtors to the flesh,
to live according to the flesh.

8
abeglish9705@[Link]
Roman Missal: 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time

For if you live according to the flesh, you

will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death
the deeds of the body, you will live.
-The Word of the Lord-

All: Thanks be to God.

Gospel
(Mt 11:25-30)

Priest: The Lord be with you.

All: and with your Spirit.
Priest: A reading from the Holy Gospel
according to Matthew.
All: Glory to you, O Lord.
AT that time Jesus exclaimed:
"I give praise to you, Father,
Lord of heaven and earth, for
although you have hidden these
things from the wise and the
learned you have revealed them
to little ones.
Yes, Father, such has been
your gracious will. All things have
been handed over to me by my
Father. No one knows the Son
except the Father, and no one
knows the Father except the Son
10

and anyone to whom the Son

wishes to reveal him."
"Come to me, all you who labor
and are burdened, and I will give
you rest. Take my yoke upon you
and learn from me, for I am meek
and humble of heart; and you will
find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my
burden light."

-The Gospel of the Lord-

All: Praise to you, O Lord Jesus Christ.

Profession of Faith
Priest/ All:
I believe in one God, the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible
and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only
Begotten Son of God, born of the Father
before all ages. God from God, Light from
Light, true God from true God, begotten, not
made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made. For us men
and for our salvation he came down from
heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the
Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius
Pilate, he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day in accordance
with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living
and the dead and his kingdom will have no
end.

12
abeglish9705@[Link]
Roman Missal: 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver

of life, who proceeds from the Father and the
Son, who with the Father and the Son is
adored and glorified, who has spoken through
the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic
Church. I confess one Baptism for the
forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the
resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come.
Amen.

Prayers of the Faithful

Priest:
Jesus reveals to us that God is gentle
and compassionate, slow to anger
and of great kindness. This prompts
us to approach the Father with trust
as we pray:
FATHER, MAKE OUR BURDEN
LIGHT.
1. May the Church, under Pope Francis’
leadership, stand up to the cause of
peace, justice, and love- specially in
places where war, oppression, and the
culture of death continue to reign. We
pray.
2. May our Bishop, Priest, and deacons
prove to be worthy ministers by their
simplicity of life and their words of
solace and encouragement. We pray.
3. May the leaders of nations and all
government officials work for peace and
justice and attend to the welfare of the
poor and the homeless. We pray.

14
abeglish9705@[Link]
Roman Missal: 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time

4. May those who are oppressed by

dehumanizing systems, elderly people
weighed down by loneliness, and
families separated by quarrels and
financial problems find consolation in
you. We pray.
5. May you give healing hope and
comfort to those who are sick and
abandoned by their family and grant
eternal rest to those who have died
today. We pray.
6. Let us pray for the urgent concern of
our community and our personal
intention (Pause). We pray

Priest: Almighty Father, make us worthy of

your love. As we struggle to follow
you, stay close to us and protect us.
We ask this through Christ our
Lord.

All: Amen.

The Liturgy of the Eucharist

Priest:
Pray brethren (brothers and sisters)
that may sacrifice and yours may be
acceptable to God the almighty
Father.
All: May the Lord Accept the Sacrifice at
your hands. for the Praise and Glory
of his Name for our good and the good
of all his Holy Church.
PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS
Then the Priest, with hands extended, says:

Priest:
O God, who graciously accomplish
the effects of your mysteries, grant,
we pray, that the deeds by which we
serve you may be worthy of these
sacred gifts.
Through Christ our Lord

All: Amen.

PREFACE Ordinary Time II.

Priest: The Lord be with you.
All: and with your Spirit.
Priest: Lift up your hearts.
All: We lift them up to the Lord.
Priest: Let us give thanks to the Lord
our God.
All: It is right and just.
Priest:

It is truly right and just, our

duty and our salvation, always
and everywhere to give you
thanks, Lord, Holy Father,
almighty and eternal God.
Through Christ our Lord.
For out of compassion for the
waywardness that is ours, he
humbled himself and was born
of the Virgin; by the passion of
the cross, he freed us from
unending death, and by rising
17
abeglish9705@[Link]

from the dead, he gave us life

eternal.
And so, with Angels and
Archangels with thrones and
dominions and with all the hosts
and Powers of heaven, we sing
the hymn of your glory, as
without end we acclaim:

SANCTUS

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of Hosts.

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of
the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER II
The Priest, with hands extended, says:

Y ou are indeed Holy, O Lord, the

fount of all holiness.
He joins his hands and, holding them extended over the offerings, says:

M ake holy, therefore, these gifts, we

pray, by sending down your Spirit upon
them like the dewfall,
He joins his hands and makes the Sign of the Cross once over the bread and the
chalice together, saying:

so that they may become for us the

Body and  Blood of our Lord, Jesus
Christ.
He joins his hands.
In the formulas that follow, the words of the Lord should be pronounced clearly and
distinctly, as the nature of these words requires.

At the time he was betrayed and

entered willingly into his Passion,
He takes the bread and, holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:

he took bread and, giving thanks,

broke it, and gave it to his disciples,
saying:
He bows slightly.

19
abeglish9705@[Link]
Roman Missal: 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time

T AKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF

IT, FOR THIS IS MY BODY, WHICH
WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.
He shows the consecrated host to the people, places it again on the paten, and
genuflects in adoration.
After this, he continues:

In a similar way, when supper was

ended,
He takes the chalice and, holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:

he took the chalice and, once more

giving thanks, he gave it to his
disciples, saying:
He bows slightly.

T AKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK

FROM IT, FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF
MY BLOOD,
THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND ETERNAL
COVENANT, WHICH WILL BE POURED
OUT FOR YOU AND FOR MANY FOR
THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS.
DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.
He shows the chalice to the people, places it on the corporal, and genuflects in
adoration.
20
abeglish9705@[Link]
Roman Missal: 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Then he says:

The mystery of faith.

All:
We proclaim your Death, O Lord, and
profess your Resurrection until you
come again.

21
abeglish9705@[Link]
Roman Missal: 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Priest:
Then the Priest, with hands extended, says:

Therefore, as we celebrate the

memorial of his Death and
Resurrection, we offer you, Lord,
the Bread of life and the Chalice of
salvation, giving thanks that you have
held us worthy to be in your presence
and minister to you.

Humbly we pray that, partaking of the

Body and Blood of Christ, we may be
gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.

Remember, Lord, your Church, spread

throughout the world, and bring her to
the fullness of charity, together with
Francis our Pope and David William.
our Bishop and all the clergy.

Remember also our brothers and

sisters who have fallen asleep in the

hope of the resurrection, and all who

have died in your mercy:
welcome them into the light of your
face. Have mercy on us all, we pray,
that with the Blessed Virgin Mary,
Mother of God, with St. Joseph her
most chaste spouse with the blessed
Apostles, St. Ignatius and all the
Saints who have pleased you
throughout the ages, we may merit to
be coheirs to eternal life, and may
praise and glorify you
through your Son, Jesus Christ.
He takes the chalice and the paten with the host and raising both, he says:

T HROUGH HIM, AND WITH HIM,

AND IN HIM, O GOD, ALMIGHTY
FATHER,
IN THE UNITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT,
ALL GLORY AND HONOR IS YOURS, FOR
EVER AND EVER.

23

COMMUNION RITE
Priest:

After the chalice and paten have been set down, the Priest, with hands joined,

At the Savior’s command and

says:

formed by divine teaching, we dare

to say:
He extends his hands and, together with the people, continues:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be

thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be
done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive
us our trespasses, as we forgive those who
trespass against us; and lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil.
With hands extended, the Priest alone continues, saying:

D eliver us, Lord, we pray, from

every evil, graciously grant peace
in our days, that, by the help of
your mercy, we may be always free
from sin and safe from all distress,
as we await the blessed hope and

the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of
the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of
the world, grant us peace.

Blessed are those called to the supper
