FLORA OF BIHAR

The Indian state of Bihar contains sub-Himalayan foothills and mountains with moist deciduous forests. Rainfall may exceed
1600 millimeters per year. Common trees include Shorea robusta (sal), Toona ciliata, Diospyros melanoxylon (kendu), Boswellia
serrata (salai), Terminalia tomentosa (asan), Terminalia bellirica (bahera), Terminalia arjuna (arjun), Pterocarpus
marsupium (paisar), Madhuca indica (mahua).

DISCOVERY THE DIVERSE FLORA OF BIHAR

• There is no scarcity of fertile land due to the deposition of silt which make this part ideal for agriculture of growth of
plants, which are indigenous to this area.
• Different parts of Bihar have different types of vegetation.
• Bihar contains sub-Himalayan foothills and mountains with moist deciduous forest, mixed shrubs, grass and reeds.
• The western part of Bihar shares the damp climate of West Bengal. The concentration of the mahua trees is high in this
area.
• The population of these trees fades as you travel towards central Bihar. The vegetation in the central area mainly comprises
of shrubs and bushes.

FAUNA OF BIHAR

The Ganges river dolphin, is found in the Ganges and Brahmaputra, south Asia's largest river systems. It is among the most
endangered mammals of the region. Valmiki National Park, West Champaran district, covering about 800 km2 of forest, is the
18th tiger reserve of India, and is ranked fourth in terms of density of tiger population.

It has diverse landscapes, sheltering rich wildlife habitats and floral and faunal composition, with the prime protected
[Link], panthers, wild boars, sloth bears, sambar deer, chitals, four-horned antelopes, and nilgais are among the
important species of fauna. The sal forests, bamboo forests, grasslands, and other types of vegetation are significant.

Bihar has 21 animal sanctuaries, 3 national parks which is astonishing in itself. Casing the entire region of 800 km squares.

As the climatic conditions change, it impacts flora and fauna of the region directly. Thus, you may see a particular flower i n one
district in abundance, while it is missing in another. To understand this discrepancy, you must study the geographical and
climatic aspects of the state.
